Moving Toward Equalization of the Tolls

Since the 1950’s those living northwest, north and west of Chicago have been forced to pay tolls, while those in the rest of Illinois drive free.

Now, Governor Bruce Rauner is talking about putting toll roads next to I-55.

If a toll road is built next to I-55, some Chicago area drivers living southwest of the city would have the privilege of paying tolls.

  1. As more home for sale signs continue to go up
in and around my neighborhood, I read this article
and say, this is yet another reason to abandon Illinois – ASAP.

  2. Nobody driving north of Chicago has to pay tolls if they don’t want to.

The Edens Expressway runs roughly parallel to the Tri-State Tollway up to near the Lake County line, and then US 41 takes over.

It’s not an expressway, but it’s limited access and fairly fast.

Out here, we pay the same state gas taxes but we pretty much have to take the tollway unless we really like sitting at traffic lights.

The gas tax is supposed to pay for the roads.

The state shouldn’t be allowed to both charge tolls and tax the gasoline that is sold on the tollways.

  3. The Tollways have been a corrupt lie since day one.

Now this scam to extract more revenue under the guise of ‘fairness’.

Whatever happened to all those tollway funds transferred to the General Fund a few years back? E

ver any convictions for those political appointees caught scamming years ago?

    What a joke!

  4. The following type of statement indicates to me that some people in our state believe the ‘state’ is an entity unto itself.

The ‘state’ is what the voters make it.

“The state shouldn’t be allowed to both charge tolls and tax the gasoline that is sold on the tollways.”

When you elect people like Jack Franks and Mike Madigan you get what you voted for.

You forgot to include Bruce Rauner in that sentence.

He is the only trying to add the tolls.

    You know this, right?

  6. Would you prefer our Motor Fuel Taxes go to build more lanes on I-55?

We who use the tollway are forced to pay both tolls, which completely cover the cost of the tollway, PLUS Motor Fuel Taxes, 56% (my last analysis) of which go to build freeways outside the six-county area.
