Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Traffic Crash

A 22-year-old male was pronounced dead and a 23-year-old female was in critical condition following a traffic crash involving a pickup truck and passenger car in unincorporated Dunham Township.

A preliminary investigation indicated that at 7:38 p.m., on August 27, a 2010 Ford F150 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Streit Road when it failed to yield at the stop sign at Illinois Route 23 and struck a southbound 2012 Nissan Maxima sedan.

The driver of the Ford, a 22-year-old male from Lake in the Hills, was ejected from the vehicle in the crash and subsequently transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, IL, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Nissan, a 24-year-old male, was transported for precautionary reasons to Rockford Memorial Hospital. A 2-year-old male and 23-year-old female also in the Nissan were transported to Rockford Memorial Hospital. The 2-year-old remained at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the 23-year-old female remained at the hospital in critical condition.

All occupants of the Nissan were from Harvard.

The male occupant of the Ford was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

All of the occupants of the Nissan had been wearing seat belts.

Airbags deployed within both vehicles.

At this time the cause of the crash is undetermined.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.

Members of the Harvard, Marengo, and Woodstock Fire Protection Districts provided patient care. Members of the Harvard Police Department and McHenry County Division of Transportation assisted with traffic control.

  1. Drives home the point about the Crystal Lake police enforcing the seat belt law.

    And yes we know there are people who hate the government telling them what to do.

    I had a relative that was “ejected” during an accident WHILE WEARING her seat belt!

    She was jected including the SEAT and the belt.

    Your point is moot.

  3. I almost forgot. Instead of using this man’s death to support your side of stupid argument; how about some prayers for this man’s family?

    And the folks that are hospitalized with injuries?

    And anyone effected by this horrible news.
