Scam Alerts & Shredding at McHenry Township Wednesday

A press release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office:

Identity Theft Presentation and Shredding Event – September 14, 2016 at McHenry Township Senior Services

Join the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and your friends at Senior Services on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., for an educational program on current scams and fraudulent activity happening here in McHenry County.

The guest presenter will be from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office presenting on crimes related to Identity Theft and Fraud.

Quarterly presentations are offered in cooperation with Senior Services to provide information on current scams, and fraud that arise during the fall and winter months.

Tips will then be given on what to watch out for, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you become a victim.

There will also be the opportunity for residents to drop off any paper that needs shredding between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.

Shredding documents with personal information is one important step in decreasing the chances that you will become a victim of an identity fraud.

There is no limit to how much paper you can bring for shredding.

This event is for all McHenry County residents.

Those who are caregivers to a senior or are seniors themselves are especially encouraged to participate because often seniors are the targeted victims.

More information on the Quarterly Scam Presentation can be obtained through the Community Relations Division at (815)338-2144.
