McHenry County 2030 Plan Up for Comment

A press release from McHenry County:

Regional Planning Commission recommends four “big ideas” to guide land use and development in the county through the year 2030 and beyond

Woodstock, IL: The McHenry County Regional Planning Commission charged with reviewing the County’s comprehensive plan has concluded that the plan and future land use map need not be rewritten because of stagnant population growth.

The recommendation is contained in a draft report entitled McHenry County 2030 And Beyond.

The report provides new data and a fresh perspective that is meant to enhance the County’s comprehensive plan and focus implementation on those policies that are most important. The report includes four “big ideas” to guide land use and development in the County through the year 2030 and beyond.

Plan 2030 logoThe big ideas are presented in a manner to remind us that we all have a vested interest in the County’s future and we each have a role to play in making it happen:

  1. Let’s Make Our Communities Active, Healthy, and Green
  2. Let’s Build On Our Strengths
  3. Let’s Grow Smarter
  4. Let’s Expand Our Economy

Each idea is followed by numerous implementation steps which can be attained through coordination efforts of the County’s municipalities, townships, businesses, institutions, and residents.

The Regional Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to receive comments on the 2030 And Beyond report prior to submitting it to the County Board for adoption.

The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at 6:30 PM in Conference Room C, McHenry County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock IL 60098.

The hearing will begin with an overview presentation of the plan after which the Commission will accept verbal comments from attendees.

The complete draft 2030 And Beyond report is available on the project website www.co.mchenry.il.us/2030AndBeyond. In addition to providing comments at the hearing, the public can email comments to: 2030andBeyond@co.mchenry.il.us or mail comments to: McHenry County Department of Planning and Development, 2200 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock, IL 60098.

All email and written comments must be received by 4:30 PM, Friday, September 23, 2016, and will be provided to the Commission in advance of the public hearing.

McHenry County 2030 And Beyond is the first update of the County’s comprehensive plan to be completed since the plan was adopted in 2010. The comprehensive plan is intended to guide land use, development, redevelopment, and the preservation of natural, water, and agricultural resources.

The McHenry County Regional Planning Commission is leading the effort to review and update the plan.
