Information about the Republican Women’s Club follows:

The Republican Women’s Club of McHenry County came into existence approximately 60 years ago when a small group of conservative Republican Women decided to form a club (or group as they called it) to promote the cause of conservative Republican ideals and provide an avenue for women to get involved in politics at the local level while enjoying entertaining events such as picnics, lunches, Fox River boat outings and an occasional “hoe down.”

The Club began with 10-12 members and grew to 30 in the first few years. Distinguished Republican Women such as Virginia  Brunschon, Anita Sherwood, Kathy Harper and Jane Washnock became leaders of the Club. Over the years the bylaws were  amended several times to include individual candidate support in General Elections and raising the annual dues from $10 to $25 in the year 2000.

Membership has continued to increase in recent years and efforts are constantly being made to secure new and younger members with an interest in taking an active role in the Club.

Members are encouraged to volunteer to assist Republicans running for office and elected Republicans running for re-election.

One of the Club’s most important accomplishments is the initiation of the yearly scholarship program for graduating High School seniors, college students and returning students.

To date thirty three deserving young people from McHenry County who have met the criteria of the program have been selected by a panel of impartial judges, known only to the Executive Committee, have received monetary awards to assist them in their educational expenses.

In 2014, the Club decided to increase the number of scholarship awards by taking on the chore of fundraising for the revenue to finance the additional scholarships. The choice of a Port Ed Seafood/Beef Buffet was an easy decision. In the past this event has proved to be popular throughout the County. The Club is confident that the proceeds from this event will help make more scholarships available.

In 2016 the Women’s Club awarded two $1,000 scholarships to deserving McHenry County students.

  • Courtney Huellen-Prairie Ridge High School
  • Christina Meyer-Huntley High School

  1. Guess they want the candidates to converse.

Do you think they’d allow a Dem candidate ?

    Kind of defeats the purpose.

I would hope this is being held to promote Republican/Conservative candidates..
