Campaign Advice for Steve Reick and Mike Walkup

From commenter “Priest”:

Mike and Steve, you cannot intellectualize your way to winning any political seat except by accident.

You both are running in a year which favors your winning for many reasons historical, political, economic, psychological and sociological.

This does not mean you cannot lose.

You can actually lazy your way to political loss.

Both of your desired positions actually are heavily influenced by the electorate at large.

Just because you’re favored on this blogs comment section or at Republican fundraisers doesn’t mean you are even above 30% of the electorate’s support.

Early voting starts soon.

You are both radically behind the curve.

Campaign.

Mike Walkup

Mike Walkup

Jack Franks is campaigning.

He is fundamentally running for both positions as his place filler is a joke but Jack is not.

Jack may be an affable buffoon who is wholly controlled by Democrat interests against The People of this county but what have you done, in the average voters eyes, to highlight this anti McHenry County behavior?

How is the divorced working mother hearing you?

The average overworked homeowner?

The unemployed professional who has lost all hope they’ll ever be employed again? Those with no health insurance because they are too terrified of the governments lack of accountability in security or health matters to even try to find low cost(doesn’t exist) health insurance?

I know there are many carrying your water and theirs in this cycle.

You might gather enough votes.

It would be nice, however, to actually see you work for the populist vote in a populist year.

This means 5 am train stations, 8 am Andy’s/Colonial/Woodstock Family Restaurant/Windhill Pancake Parlor, 10am business visits, 1 2p lunchtime coffee buys, p mall walking, 5 p train stations, 6 p Walmart walks, 7 p meet and greets, 10 p drinks with the candidate and midnight bedtime to do it all again til 11/8.

Do the work.

Earn the votes.

KNOW you’ll win rather than praying Madigan’s C team will leave you alone enough to eke out a win against two horribly flawed and weak opponents.

Your intellect is appreciated and needed for the positions you seek but your aversion to the blue collar work to earn the positions is frustrating.

Campaign Advice for Steve Reick and Mike Walkup — 21 Comments

  1. Forget the train stations, restaurants and malls-this is not time to petition.

Less than half of residents are registered to vote, and we can expect less than half of those to actually vote.

Talk to people that you KNOW are voters–in the precincts.

  2. I was quite surprised yesterday to read this comment.

Especially with a screen name like Priest; I would have expected this person to at least mention prayer.

Without God you have NO chance.

We fight against principalities in high places. (Ephesians 6:12)

I have constantly prayed against those powers of evil and to bring McHenry County back into the kingdom realm.

    Bot is right.

    No one is voting.

Bring down the strongholds in the spiritual world and you will see God’s hand of protection.

  3. And the Republican committeemen / women are where?

A few are working their precincts but most are sitting on their hands, especially the NorWest members.

There are several ‘elected’ Republican committeemen working behind the scenes to support the little liar.

The County Board members who are NOT up for re-election are where?

They stand to lose the most if the little liar becomes Chairman – he will turn the County Board into a zoo!

Little lyin Jack Franks has the money to pay for interns recruited from Marion Central High School; he will soon blanket the County with signs and literature.

  4. Maybe Priest is a realist and realizes praying won’t result in better government.

  5. Too late.

50 days out is too late to try to start garnering foot soldiers who believe in you enough to work for you.

If your too “busy” to work for the vote, you don’t deserve the office

  6. I see by the comments that no one understands spiritual warfare.

Good luck to you all in the very near future fighting a battle you have no tools to address.

  7. Jack’s Dog:

    Dog For Sale

A guy is driving rural Marengo Illinois and he sees a sign in front of a tired old house with lots of deferred maintenance: ‘Talking Dog For Sale ‘

He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

    ‘You talk?’ he asks.

    ‘Yep,’ the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says ‘So, what’s your story?’

The Lab looks up and says, ‘Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so… I told the CIA.

In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.’

‘I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running…

But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger so I decided to settle down.

I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.

I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals.’

‘I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.’

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

    ‘Ten dollars,’ the guy says.

‘Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?’

‘Because he’s a bigger liar than Lying Jack Franks…he’s never even been out of the back yard!’

  8. Fierabras,

Why do you care so much about Jack Franks being from Lake County?

  9. Moderate -you seem to be ignorant about how much one county can influence what happen in other counties and the state!!

  10. Because telling people to pray is not sound campaign strategy.

Send a mailer, knock on doors, get signs, hold town halls — these are things people do if they want to win.

If praying were all it took to have good government, Louisiana wouldn’t be one of the most corrupt states in the country.

And if you believe God gave us free will and agency, then you would acknowledge that the only way you are going to convince somebody to vote for candidate x is through communicating to THEM, not by praying.

I did hear about spiritual warfare though.
    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2629617/A-cowboy-curmudgeon-biker-normal-guy-Hilarious-GOP-Idaho-governor-debate-makes-comic-history-human-caricatures-spar-racist-jokes-spiritual-warfare-killing-endangered-species.html
It didn’t work for him; he only got about 5 percent of the vote if I recall.

  11. Not one of you understood what was meant by spiritual warfare.

I never said one thing against working your territory.

I never even said to pray for your candidate to win.

Not one of you will be prepared in the end.

Your prayers go unanswered because you are smug and self-righteous in your attitudes.

I am ashamed that so many have spoken so poorly on this subject.

I am particularly annoyed that someone would go so far as to throw out an old apophthegm like “God helps those that help themselves”.

That is NOT what the Bible says on the subject.

    And, yes, Fierabras.

Old story; but still really funny.

  12. I’ll go with Spiritual Warfare.

People better start looking to God and nothing is ever wrong with prayer.

God is always in control and He will allow what He will allow.

  13. One of the highest values our nation holds dear is anyone may rise to the level their hard work will yield for them. This is foundational to any success.

You both have been encouraged to be visionary.

    Where is your vision communicated?

You have been encouraged to lead.

    Where is your leadership evidenced?

    The time is now short.

Barring vision or leadership hard work is attractive.

    Please work.

    Gottmoller would have worked.

O’Neill nearly worked himself to death.

This seeming entitled attitude of others should do the work and the HRO always pours money into campaigns is just dead wrong.

The HRO, SRO and Illinois GOP have been broke for years.

They only have money because Rauner is generous.

Act like you’re grateful for the opportunity to fight for the people you wish to represent.

Act like you’re in a fight.

Act like it matters to you whether Jack and the Democrats gain the foothold they need to finish the destruction of McHenry County.

I know good people who have died to protect The People and the best you have is “Come meet the candidate because I’m super special??!!”

    Go… Meet… The People… Act… Like.. You… Care…

Anything less is an insult to those who have fought, do fight and will fight against the predations of policies of social, cultural and economic destruction.

Cindy, my dearest Cindy there are no values without God.

    He is the Source.

However, in deference to His Son telling the Israelite Nationalists He had no interest in their cause as He was about His Father’s Kingdom there are those who honor The Word while working very hard to also save our corporeal national values.

Do not think the comment section here is a comprehensive way to express how to run a campaign or some full expression of belief sets.

There are those who also understand having an R or a D behind your name neither denotes morality nor Godly endorsement.

We all are fighting for something we believe in.

This comment Cal published was not meant to moralize but was meant to exhort two entitled lazy candidates to honor the candidacy they’ve won and fight to win the seats.

We shall see if they will put feet to our prayers.

  14. I am shocked that this is my comment- but Priest, you are exactly right.

Just saying you are a candidate doesn’t work- and you need to win people over to have them work for you.

  15. Once again, Priest, spot on.

Mike, you need to WALK UP to some doors, to some street corners with your signs, to voters who might actually vote for you if they knew who you were.

Or are you perhaps RINO, ensuring a victory for the self-righteous one?
