A press release from State Senator Karen McConnaughay:
McConnaughay hosts free Women’s Conference on October 6
ELGIN — As part of her ongoing effort to empower, encourage and inspire women, State Senator Karen McConnaughay (R-St. Charles) is hosting her second annual Women’s Conference on Thursday, October 6, from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Elgin Community College, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin.
“My goal is to connect working women from all walks of life and inspire a dialogue that fosters professional and personal growth,” said McConnaughay.
“Last year, we were able to highlight the accomplishments of so many incredible women leaders, and this year we’re building on that momentum.
“I’m looking forward to another inspiring event.”
McConnaughay is excited to hear about Dr. Beth Purvis’ vision for education in Illinois.
As the Secretary of Education, Dr. Purvis is a leading advocate for increasing the educational success for all students in Illinois.
Following Dr. Purvis’ address, there will be a panel discussion with some impressive leaders in the area.
Panelists were chosen based on their extraordinary leadership roles in their industries.
This year’s panelists include:
- Gloria Bunce, Executive Director of CASA Kane County
- Catherine M. Tojaga, President of CT Mechanical
- Gretchen Vapnar, Executive Director of Community Crisis Center
The panel discussion will provide women the opportunity to share their experiences in the workplace and interact with each other on a personal level.
“It’s important that we, as women, get together and share experiences on the road to success,” said McConnaughay.
“Far too often women are underrepresented in so many fields, or simply overlooked for leadership and advancement opportunities. This conference provides a forum to discuss those obstacles and learn from other successful, dynamic women how to accomplish tangible change in the workplace.”
Registration for this free event begins at 4 p.m. The conference begins at 4:30 p.m. and concludes at 7 p.m., and will be followed by a networking reception at 7 p.m.

Empower women!
heh, heh ……
such shibboleths are taken straight from Madame Hillary’s Saul Alinsky Playbook.
How about Empower the Tax-Payers (of both genders ….
I said BOTH …. not Hillary’s 28!)

Where it all went downhill was when we gave the right to vote to women.
Women HAD all the power; then Satan started this women’s lib crap.
When will they learn?
**Where it all went downhill was when we gave the right to vote to women.**
Oh. My. God.
I’m sorry, alabama.
Technically, it really all went downhill when Eve listened to the snake.
I was speaking of recent history.
