Complaints have been made by some in the political arena that eliminating the elected official who runs the McHenry County Recorder of Deeds office is a bad idea, because McHenry County is too large a county for a merger with the County Clerk’s office to work.
Funny thing happened in Cook County that relates to this objection.
The County Board there put a referendum on the ballot to eliminate the elected Cook County Recorder of Deeds.
And Andy Shaw, head of the Better Government Association, thinks that’s a good idea.

Republican McHenry County Recorder of Deeds candidate Joe Tirio’s sign says, “Erase the Recorder.”
He calls the idea “a nugget of good news that gives me hope.”
Shaw characterizes the merger as “a perfect fit that makes perfect sense.”
“…it represents the kind of “smart streamlining” Illinois desperately needs more of and the Better Government Association enthusiastically supports,” Shaw says.
This is the hallmark issue of Republican Joe Tirio.
The Democrat running for the office, Lynn Gray, opposes the idea.
Of course his opponent opposes the idea!
She wants to roll into the position, collect her pay as long as she can, and get enrolled on that Longterm Govt. Gravy Train!
Refuses to term limit herself, plans on collecting the Pension and all the goodies she can squeeze out of the county budget!
Tirio’s opponent is telling people that Joni Smith put her up to running and has her full support.
If Republican Primary Loser, JONI SMITH put up a Democrat to run against her own party’s Candidate Joni Smith ought to be run out of the Republican Party!
It would only make sense if we had a different person in the clerks office
Grumpy, actually it makes sense either way.
It would be a separate department of the clerks office that would be contained and self running.
Much like it is now, only no high paid elected Recorder sucking off the taxpayers and hoping to do even more damage with a pension/health insurance/patronage/nepotism etc!!
