Former twenty-year McHenry County Board member Mary Lou Zierer died Friday at almost 86 years of age.

She was born on Christmas Day in 1930.

Zierer represented the westernmost district in McHenry County and was the daughter of former McHenry County Clerk Vernon Kays.

Her brother was McHenry County Circuit Clerk Bill Kays.

I am sure she would want to be remembered for championing the construction of the new Valley Hi nursing home.

Local notables will remember her basement parties before the annual Settlers Days Parade.

Visitation is this afternoon from 4-8 at Zion Lutheran Church, 412 Jackson Street in Marengo, and tomorrow from noon to 1.

Her funeral will be at the church on Tuesday at 1.
