The Northwest Herald decided to endorse two with school board experience in McHenry County Board District 3.

Former President of Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 and Democrat Diane Johnson was endorsed along with just resigned member of Cary Elementary School District 26 Chris Christensen.

The difference between their experience is that Christensen was part of the coalition who reduced the Cary Grade School levy 26% from FY 2010 to FY 2016.

I can’t remember a year since the Real Estate Tax Cap went into effect in the early 1990’s when the Crystal Lake Grade School Board did not take the maximum increase allowed by that law.

Passed over was Mike Walkup, who led the fight to reduce the McHenry County tax levy from $79 to $76 million by zeroing out the unneeded proposed Valley Hi Nursing Home levy of $3 million.

The NWH also did not endorse Walkup for the County Board Chairmanship he seeks.

In District 4, the NWH endorsed both Republicans:

  • Kay Bates
  • Craig Wilcox

  1. Say no to Johnson, with her history with District 47 in the 90’s, she should not hold any office.

  2. Diane Johnson was looking for China on a world map …… but she was looking for it below the Equator, in South America!

  3. If she is in a debate, bring the map and have her look again . . . could be the laugh of the day.
