How the NWH Edits Letters to Protect Jack Franks

Below you see two versions of the same letter to the Northwest Herald, published here by permission of the author, Rachael Lawrence of Cary.

Here is the original, unedited version:

Very soon it will become apparent the Chicago political machine will infiltrate McHenry County if Jack Franks is elected county chair.

I expect an onslaught of negative ads, mailers, and robocalls attacking our Republican candidates in a takeover attempt by Jack Franks and the Democratic Party.

These hit pieces will be paid for by Chicago lawyers, lobbyists and organized labor who want to extract more of our money for their personal gain.

I urge you to visit www.lyingjackfranks.com which has facts and supporting documents explaining just a few of the shady dealings and two-faced actions of Jack Franks.

Fellow Republicans, do we really want the corruption of the Chicago political machine injected into local government here in McHenry County? We must remain Republican strong and vote for ALL REPUBLICANS DOWN THE BALLOT to protect the future of McHenry County.

Below is how the letter read after it was edited by the NWH:

Takeover Attempt

To the Editor:

These are 2010 numbers. Would anyone like to go to VoteSmart.org and update the figures?

How the NWH Edits Letters to Protect Jack Franks — 9 Comments

  1. Is it the NWH’s policy not to include website links?

There is an obligation to all of us especially the press to research what we find on the internet.

Not all sights are valid, and some are just outright slanted BS.

  2. This isn’t something new ……

Mark “Fatty Arbuckle” Sweetwood would brag about how he’d ‘edit’ letters to make the writer appear dumb and semi-literate.

That’s why I dropped my subscription many moons ago.

The goof who succeeded Loser Sweetwood, named Peterson, would do it, too.

Just ask Steve Stanek, who formerly and briefly worked there many moons ago.

I give the paper a couple years … and then bye-bye!

    Good riddance!

Everyday more of its subscribers turn up in the obits.

Their big plans of going digital went bust.

They lie about their circulation constantly …

they dump bales of the rag at Centegra Hosp and various libraries because nobody will buy the damn thing.

Here’s one of it’s actual few remaining uses as it continues its unstoppable slide into irrelevance and final demise:

  3. I’ve written a few letters to nwh before and had them “edited” without my concent.

Once they did email me and ask that I edit it and resubmit because I went over the 250 words allowed.

I think for a political letter it’s cut down to only 150.

  4. When the Northwest Herald took the place of the Crystal Lake Herald, the Woodstock Sentinel, the Harvard Herald, the McHenry Plain Dealer, etc., I believe their advertising slogan was

    We’re SLANTED

  5. If you write a LTE for the LOCAL RAG and the editors do not like the content, expect a phone call challenging your ‘facts’.

In the above example, it appears there was not even a phone call, just the elimination of some content.

Just another example of why Wikileaks is as popular as it is – YOU CANNOT BELIEVE THE MSM.

  6. If you don’t read the newspaper
you are uninformed, if you do
    read the newspaper you are
    misinformed. — Mark Twain
