As Jack Franks’ anti-Mike Walkup mailing was being delivered, a positive piece from opponent Mike Walkup was also hitting mailboxes from Crystal Lake to McHenry.
It did not mention Franks, Walkup’s opponent for the McHenry County Board Chairmanship.
It touted Walkup’s positive attributes and asked votes to compare
Walkup’s have led the fight to cut county government’s taxes by $3 million by zeroing out the Valley Hi Nursing Home tax levy, thus cutting the county government property tax levy from $79 million to $76 million with
Cathy Bergan Schmidt’s having voted to raise the county tax levy while she served on the County Board and
Diane Johnson’s having voted to raise Crystal Lake taxes while she served on the Crystal Lake Grade School District 47 School Board.
There seems to be an error in the mailing.
While Cathy Bergan Schmidt did vote to raise property taxes four times (twice one year when a change in her vote would have held the tax levy constant), in her last year in office, when Scott Breeden was Chairman of the Finance Committee, she voted with the majority in favor of the tax levy, which was reduced.
