To kick off his campaign, Lying Jack Franks held five Town Hall Meetings.

On the table where one was encouraged to sign in and provide an email address were bottles of water.

These bottles had stickers applied that said,

Cut Property Taxes NOW 10%

Scissors could be seen cutting into the 10%.

The “Cut10” web site was below the drawing of the house.

I know this is old information to regular readers, but the new folks coming to McHenry County Blog to find election information that can be found no where else, but there is no way that a McHenry County Board Chairman can cut a home’s property taxes by 10%.

For starters, the county budget is about 10% of the whole tax bill.

Franks claimed to newspaper editorial board members that he would cut the county tax levy by 10%.

That will be a challenge for a County Board Chairman who has no vote on the tax levy, just the power of persuasion.

Follow the math for the modified claim, however, which is not on his campaign material.

10% of 10% is one percentage point.

So if Franks is really saying he is only going to cut the county budget by 10%, the message to voters via his logo should have been

Cut Property Taxes NOW 1%

But, of course, one does not win an election with the promise of cutting real estate taxes 1%.

That’s why Lying Jack Franks is lying.

Let’s compare what Republican opponent Mike Walkup has already done to the modified claim of Franks, that is, that he will cut the county tax levy by 10%.

Last year, Mike Walkup actually led the fight to cut the county’s tax levy.

Not 10%, but 3.6%.

Below is some of what Walkup did to cut the county’s tax levy by 3.6% and to abolish the Valley Hi tax.

You will note that Walkup convinced Franks to adopt his position on eliminating the tax rate for the Valley Hi Nursing Home, which has over $40 million in the bank–four times its annual budget.

It represents real leadership to cut taxes, not pandering to voters with a promise that Jack Franks cannot possible fulfill.
