Algonquin Township Republicans – Off and Running

The race started with McHenry County Board member Andrew Gasser holding a not-so-secret meeting of supporters at Colonial Cafe in Crystal Lake.

Crashing the meeting were Algonquin Township Road Commissioner Bob Miller and and his two sons-in-laws.

Why were they there?

Gasser has decided to take on Miller, who has more money in his Political Action Committee than anyone else in McHenry County.

The literature supporters of Andrew Gasser for Algonquin Township Road Commissioner passed out.

Gasser supporters were out gathering signatures after that.

In the afternoon, they met at Grover’s Bar and Grill in Fox River Grove to turn them in.

In other GOP township news, the Miller’s said they will contest all township offices.

In still other township Republican news, Elgin Township Assessor employee Richard Alexander was passing petitions for Algonquin Township Assessor in Crystal Lake.  Alexander previously worked for Grafton Township Assessor Bill Ottley.

  1. I agree that Miller should go, but it would be far better if he were replaced by someone who actually has a background in maintaining roads.

I don’t see how the township benefits by paying over $100k/year counting benefits to someone who has never done this kind of work before and would have to learn the job from scratch.

  2. Knowing Andrew Gasser and his breadth of experience, he’s either far more knowledgeable than we know, or has been getting schooled the last few years and will hit the ground running!

  3. Was the petition that volunteers passed around for Gasser only or are they running a slate?

  4. If I lived in Algonquin Township, I’d make certain I had a good 4wd if Gasser got the job.

  5. The NDR program is like BOcare is incomplete in scope and the real costs will be much hire than any numbers presented so far.

Sounds good, but will cost the rest of us a ton to fix roads the owners should be responsible for.

I believe the NDR people that live in Alg Twh have no greater a champion than Bob Miller, who has gone out of his way for years to help the residents that live on those roads.

A fly guy with his head up in the clouds worried about Mars, doesn’t replace somebody who understands hot asphalt and has also kept levies flat.

  6. Re: “kept levies flat.” Huh?

Between 2008 and 2016, assessed value of property in Algonquin has dropped 34 %.

During the same time period the Algonquin Road District has increased its levy 6 % (calculation performed after reducing tax transfers out).

  7. Questioning, nit picking this morning?
Kept levies flat the last few years, almost mirroring the county board flat levies.

  8. Nit picking?

An increase in the levy is NOT keeping it flat.

We need reductions in property – not increases.

The County did not keep their levy flat for most recent years either.

The only exception being this year when they did not levy the Valley Hi tax which actually resulted in a tax cut but now some of the fools are actually proposing to levy the Valley Hi tax again.

Will Schofield, Miller, Draffkorn, Martens, Hill (last meeting for them) join with the Republican tax hikers on the Board or will common sense prevail and they will join with those who really represent the taxpayers and amend the proposed budget to eliminate the Valley Hi tax?

While on the topic of Board members, did Kurtz actually attend Jack Franks victory party?

  9. Kurtz went to an event for the library.

    She fought Franks

    Stop the false rumors

  10. P. S. Kurtz went to the Republican event first the the library.

    She whole heartedly supported Walkup.

  11. Just asked the question.

Did not intend to perpetuate a rumor.

    Thank you for clarifying!

  12. Kurtz is still a BIG SPENDER, ie the
    Randall Rd. Project.

    Obviously, another BIG SPENDER unnecessary
    Project, the Library.

At least her Mother is VOTING AGAINST
Big spending on the District 155 Board.

A shout out and THANK YOU to Rosemary Kurtz !

  13. Questioning, Mike W and Andrew G who comment here say they haven’t raised the county levy, the NWH says the same thing.

Explain we you say they did raise that levy?

  14. Andrew, maybe explaining your campaign talking points would help:

Alg Twh road dist offers more and better service than any Twh I know of, municipalities even, so how can services be improved without a levy increase?

    Reduce Administration costs?

That one I definitely want explained.

  15. So now we see that what Andrew wants is another public job and pension

  16. WRONG, “Mrs” .

Andrew would NOT be taking Pension OR Health Insurance!!!

AND he would Term Limit himself too!!!

    DRAIN THE SWAMP!!!

  17. Would Gasser allow any of the Miller retainers to keep their jobs if he is elected?

Would they stay on if he did?

If the answer to these questions is no, who would teach Mr Gasser how to do the job?

This isn’t a generic administrative job, it requires a fair amount of technical expertise that takes a long time to attain, and I don’t think even Gasser’s strongest backers would claim he’s a candidate for MENSA.

If Gasser gets in there, I foresee Michael Bilandic level disaster with the first serious snow storm.

  18. Administration costs are crazy with Bob Miller at 96K/yr and also his wife who is his admin asst, who makes 96K!!!!!

If Andrew got in he could eliminate 96K right out of the gate!

Not taking pension and healthcare would also $ave.

Andrew, I’m sure would also not use company vehicles/manpower and the buildings for personal use like the current guy Bob Miller does.

Everything about that whole Miller empire is just so wrong.

))))HELLO ALGONQUIN TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS(((( -We’re paying for a lot of crap, all while our property values are going down in order to keep the Miller family in the money! !

Elect a new Road Commissioner, get rid of the over-bloated MILLER FAMILY salaries & benefits & then some, and run that township like a top, not a personal Miller family empire!!!

    “DRAIN THE SWAMP,” Indeed!!!
