The ice boat fell the ice. It is east of Rumsey’s Point across the lake from about where Gate 21 beach is located.
A press release from the Crystal Lake Fire Department about the rescue of two men who fell through the ice on Crystal Lake:
Talking to a CL Fireman Salvation Army bell ringer at Jewel this morning, I was told a woman was piloting the ice boat when it went through a weak point in the ice and that her husband went out to rescue her and he fell in, too.
Another view said both husband and wife were on the ice boat and the wife was heard yelling, “Help! Help! Help!”
The ice boat remains in the lake, as can be seen from the photo above.

I know very little about this but I’m assuming the point of the ice boat is to stay out of the water.

is it just covered by our regular property taxes that fund the fire department or do these two idiots have to pay for their stupidity?
It was fire departments financed by property taxes that brough rescue crews from nearby towns to help the CL Fire Department.
