CL Library Board President Asked for Referendum Tabling

The following email was sent Tuesday afternoon from Crystal Lake Librarian Kathryn Martens to Crystal Lake City Manager Gary Mayerhofer less than three hours before the City Council met:

Per instructions from Terri Reece, Library Board President, the Library is requesting that the item on the City Council’s Agenda tonight, related to an advisory referendum question for a Library building for the April 4 ballot, be tabled.

CL Library Board President Asked for Referendum Tabling — 8 Comments

  1. Should not be shelved, tabled or put under the table.

Should be placed at the bottom of a hundred foot pit, buried and left there forever.

  2. Precisely, CP.

These liars and thieves need to be put out of business.

    Pray against the demons.

  3. At least they are starting to listen to the voters.

Maybe they will come back with a better plan that costs less.

    Maybe not.

  4. We don’t need a new Library.

    To expensive.

Not enough reason they are just protecting and adding jobs to a dying idea.

Added real estate tax will increase over time and who know that the original estimate is correct to begin with. NO, NO and No.

  5. Nob, they’re not listening to the voters.

“Library Board President Teresa Reece argued in a Dec. 22 letter to the city that “numerous residents” said they were confused by the question’s wording because it referred to a home’s “market value” rather than the phrase “fair cash value” that is found on property tax bills.”

In other words, voters were just too stupid to understand the issue.

The entire Library Board needs to be replaced.

The Board is supposed to be a watchdog for the public, a check on the bureaucracy.

This board is strictly 100% pro-library.

I don’t understand why we even have a library board.

The Library is a department of the City, which is why it’s included in the City’s audit.

Why not a board for the department of Streets and Sanitation made up of people who think more road building is imperative?

Why not a board for the water and sewer department made up of people who think the City absolutely needs bigger and better water mains?

  6. Many of CLs problems arise because it’s leaders want it to be Barrington.

    It’s not.

But be proud of what it is from the colorful older neighborhoods to the lake where ice was once harvested.

Time to stop punishing the taxpayers who love the city and remain despite the high taxes.

Be thankful for Crystal Lake instead of trying to compete with your neighbor.
