SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Karen McConnaughay (R-St. Charles) released the following statement following Governor Bruce Rauner’s third annual State of the State address

Karen McConnaughay.

“Illinois is facing significant challenges, but I believe Governor Rauner’s address today builds on the positive momentum that we’ve seen in the Senate, recently,” said Senator McConnaughay.

“Illinois is a diverse state, host to many different interests and backgrounds. However, I think what Governor Rauner said today is true—by working together in a bipartisan way and embracing the spirit of compromise, we can overcome our problems for the betterment of the people of this state—including creating employment opportunities and reestablishing fiscal stability in this state.

“I was particularly interested to hear his vision for education funding, which as you know has been one of my top priorities.

“The Governor has demonstrated that he is committed to making school funding in Illinois more equitable, and I look forward to working with him on that endeavor as we move into the spring.

Senator McConnaughay is a member of Governor Rauner’s Illinois School Funding Reform Commission, a bipartisan task force charged with addressing issues with the current school funding formula. The commission is scheduled to release their report on February 1.
