Hultgren on Trump’s Immigration Executive Order, Calls It “Overly Broad”

A press release from Congressman Randy Hultgren:

Hultgren Statement on Executive Order on Visas and Immigration

Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released a statement regarding President Trump’s executive order, Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States:

Randy Hultgren

“Our nation has a strong and principled tradition as a beacon of hope for the vulnerable and oppressed.

“Given the nature of the threats we face in the 21st century, I believe it is prudent to once again review and strengthen our visa screening processes to ensure those we let into our country have American interests at heart.

“I believe we can and must continue to strive for that balance of compassion and security,” said Rep. Hultgren.

“I have consistently fought for strengthening our security policies.

“I believe that the vetting within the refugee program is already extensive and thorough—it is currently the most difficult and lengthy process to get into the United States, typically taking 18 months or more for a vulnerable family to survive while they wait approval to enter our country.

“I expect the rigor of the vetting process to be confirmed during the 120-day review of our current visa policies regarding refugees.

“I also urge recommendations that will increase collaboration and the sharing of information between our international partners, federal law enforcement agencies and local communities.

“Unfortunately, the President’s executive order is overly broad and its interpretation has been inconsistent and confused.

“This has led to unintended consequences, like the barring of legal permanent residents and the rejection of Syrian Christians at the airport, a religious minority that was supposed to be protected by the executive order.

“Keeping America First means keeping our principles first—both compassion and security.

“To remain the world’s shining city on a hill and beacon of hope to many, we should have our arms open to those who are fleeing oppression and seeking safety, not turning them away at the door.”

Hultgren on Trump’s Immigration Executive Order, Calls It “Overly Broad” — 44 Comments

  1. Hultgren is a “nice” guy but he is naive as are many others in this country.

The problem which I believe the President is addressing is the failure to properly ‘vet’ refugees.

How can we properly ‘vet’ a refugee from a country which cannot provide appropriate documentation relative to its residents?

We have to take the refugee’s word.

We took the word of people who entered our country about eighteen years ago and over 3,000 perished.

    I agree with the President.

  2. MSM won’t report it so I will:

“National Survey of 1,000 U.S. Likely Voters

    Conducted January 25-26, 2017
    By Rasmussen Reports

1* Do you favor or oppose a temporary ban on refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here?

2* Do you favor or oppose a temporary block on visas prohibiting residents of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from entering the United States until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here?”

“A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters favor a temporary ban on refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen until the federal government approves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here. Thirty-three percent (33%) are opposed, while 10% are undecided.”

However, because of this poll, the immigration lawyers, the MSM and Soros sent out their minions which btw includes the guy who was recently in Palm Springs and then the Canary Islands.

Insofar as anything published by the New York Times, remember who owns it – Carlos Slim.

As to the Washington Post, remember it is owned by the boss of Amazon, Jeff Bezos – I wonder how many illegal aliens work in an Amazon warehouse?

That’s why I like this blog – it is locally owned and operated.

  3. If you believe the false narrative being posted by the MSM, do a search on the following refugee names:

    Tsarnaev (Boston bomber) brothers

    Mohamed Osman Mohamud

    Mohanad Hammadi

    Abdullatif Ali Aldosary

    Fazliddin Kurbanov

    Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan

    Dahir Adan

    Ahmad Rahimi

    Abdul Razak Ali Artan

  4. @Randy Hultgren:

So you would rather let in a person committed to cutting off my head rather than protecting what you were sworn to do.

    Idiot.

  5. As ISIS moved to solidify its caliphate one piece of civilization they captured, among a great many tools of nations, were legitimate passports/paperwork/official documents/machinations of State.

There was an outcry from many in the Intel community under Obama to immediately cease travel from these nation states.

Politically this type of common sense protective measure didn’t serve the agenda of Obama.

Politics put our nation, and it’s domestic law enforcement resources, under fabulous duress.

All Trump has allowed is for our law enforcement to take a collective breath, gather itself and prepare to, once again, operate as the last official line of defense against goat herders who want to kill you for being free.

Anyone at the national political leadership level who doesn’t understand the precarious position our nation is in after eight years of failed National Security directives and selective law enforcement is failing their Oath of Office.

Anyone at the national political leadership level who doesn’t understand our immigration process is corrupt, broken and harms our ability to admit beautiful immigrants from the whole world are failing our nation’s future growth and security.

    They know.

They are either cowards or fabulously stupid because ignorance of the failures and threats is impossible to claim.

Any leader, Mr. Hultgren, who whines about what it takes to put out the dumpster fire of Obama’s anti American policies should be brought up on charges of Sedition.

Get with helping or get out of the way.

  6. This is what career politicians do – criticize, do nothing and cover their bets to secure future votes.

Like almost all immigration laws, the politicians espouse them but they are not enforced.

Voters are sick and tired of those in power doing nothing.
Pres Trump cannot be accused of that.

  7. According to Christian scholar Resa Aslan, less than .0001% of refugees have committed terrorist attacks against Americans. American citizens who are ISIS sympathizers have killed more Americans than Syrian refugees or members of ISIS.

Trump asked Rudy Giuliani back in October to figure out how they could make this order legal.

I don’t think anyone can question that the language of the order is neutral to religion and race, but the intent behind the order is discriminatory and an uncoordinated, beaucratic mess that was poorly executed.

If this was a go to market strategy and Trump was a CEO, he would be fired.

  8. Mr. Trump rang this bell for all to hear for over 18 months why is everyone so surprised!?

wake up America and if you not an American you need to go back where you came from cause you are not one of us !

Who listens and knows what is going on around them!

its called caring where you LIVE!

not taking advantage of those around you!

  9. Illinois is incapable of fielding a politician that is not corrupt/stupid to the core.

I just lost any respect I ever managed to muster for this man.

  10. Incredible, LTResident is literally repeating history.

It was the Irish who were discriminated against in 1800 to 1850s for coming to America and taking railroad jobs.

It was the Chinese out west in this time period as well who experienced discrimination.

Then it was the Italians and others of Mediterranean heritage after the Irish and the Chinese.

Many of them documented by sociologist Jacob Riis.

As the waves of immigrants transitioned from Western Europe to Eastern Europe, so too did the discrimination towards immigrants.

Finally, look at today’s Syrian children who, in World War II would have been Anne Frank.

These children are in a war torn country that has been shredded in half – with any semblance of civilization in Aleppo vanished.

And what does the U.S. do now that we did in WWII?

We shut out Jews and placed quotas on how many immigrants could come.

Trump has done the same thing but with Muslims.

Then, a Democratic Administration, now a Republican Administration has perpetuated this policy.

I’m sickened by the credulity of some commenters here that they are so quick to condemn populations of people purely because they are not American.

What happened to learn from history – especially the history that you may have lived. Sickening – absolutely sickening.

I stand by Rep. Hultgren for his stance against the trump administration, not matter how small.

    This is progress.

  11. I will never vote for Hultgren AGAIN.

I was mad when the National GOP euchered Joe Walsh out of his seat so Hultgren could preen.

    Doesn’t Randy dandy get it?

People are fed up with R I N Os

  12. Walsh got pushed out by Democrats, not Republicans.

    Get your facts straight.

  13. Do you think a woman named Angela would love to have Moderate as one of her constituents?

  14. We must never forget the naysayers and the oppositionists.

As for the Democrats, they are throwing their whole hand in.

If things go as planned, they won’t see the White House for a long time, thank the Lord Almighty.

  15. BTW after reading the GAO report I think it is fair to say that the content of this comment:

“but the intent behind the order is discriminatory and an uncoordinated, beaucratic mess that was poorly executed. If this was a go to market strategy and Trump was a CEO, he would be fired.” was developed in a vacuum.

  16. The report you site finds:

“to better ensure the effectiveness of CBP’s predeparture programs, we recommend that the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection develop and implement a system of performance measures and baselines to evaluate the effectiveness of CBP’s predeparture programs and assess whether the programs are achieving their stated goals.”

There arent pre-departure programs from Syria.

This doesn’t support a travel ban.

What are you even trying to prove?

  17. The argument that an internal memorandum could not have been circulated to ensure a seamless rollout is absurd.

Your head is a vacuum cautious voter.

  18. MCarren-Walter Act was enacted in 1952.

You are all arguing a moot point.

  19. The 9/11 attackers were from countries not on the ban list.

    How does this make sense?

  20. Glad you brought that up Cindy.

Trumps team is so amateurish that they neglected to cite thr Nationality Act of 1965 which was intended to supersede the 1952 legislation.

  21. One of the 911 attackers ran for president recently.

    Get your facts straight Notbuyingit.

  22. So, in case you aren’t keeping score at home.

In this thread, Cindy has mistakenly cited McCarrem-Walter Act of 1952, claimed a 9/11 hijacker ran for President, and mistakenly agreed that the GOP drew Joe Walsh out of his district.

Does anyone else find that as hilarious as I do?!

  23. Wrong again, Moderate.

There were no hijackers and I never mentioned that word.

You are the one that would be hilarious were it not so very scary and sad that you know nothing about anything.

  24. Cindy,

Which 9/11 attacker that wasn’t a hijacker ran for President?

  25. Is this some prank?

    I’ve literally googled:

    9/11 hijacker runs for president

    911 attacker runs for President

    Terrorist runs for President

The closest I can come to is the Orlando shooter’s father ran for President.

Please take off the gloves for one second and give me a link to this story. I’m dying to learn for my next trivia night.

  26. First off, you will never get any truth from Google.

If you don’t know who you are talking about, maybe you should shut your mouth.

Terrorist is a buzzword “they” use to scare you.

You will NOT find any truth when you use THAT word.

    Period!

You are so stupid that my head swims with indredulity.

Beyond that, we are a nation of laws.

Now that someone is finally going to ENFORCE those laws, we have the psychotic left Marxists whining in the streets.

    Do you know why?

    Because they are BRAINWASHED stupid.

    Kind of sound familiar?

[Try looking for truth about 911 or abel danger or field mcconnell and you will get your questions answered.]

IF you are seriously that backward, there is no time for you to get smart.

    It is too late.

You have bought into the false reality that has been shoved on you.

  27. I’d heard that Cindy’s a little, shall we say, whacky – but I had no idea.

All I can say is WOW!

  28. Typical of Moderate.

Those two names I gave you come up with THOUSANDS of hits.

Yet, Moderate says they can’t find anything.

    Liar.

Keep your head in the sand and believe the propanga you are being fed.

    Keep trolling.

    And Audrey?

    Where did you “hear” this?

    At the water cooler?

Are “they” talking about me everywhere you go?

I think you may be hearing voices; because NO ONE is talking about me.

So what you “heard” is all in your mind.

  29. Cindy,

    One link – just one.

Who was the 911 attacker that ran for President?

    Copy – Paste.

  30. Oh my God, I can’t believe I just listened to this whole thing.

There is literally ZERO evidence of 911 attacker who ran for President!

  31. Then you need to listen to today’s radio show.

If you are too stupid to follow what they are saying – I can’t help you.

    They name names!!!!

    It’s all tied together.

Sorry, you are too stupid to follow it.

  32. Name Names?

    NAME ONE NAME!

What attackers on 911 ran for President?

  33. This is his 4th term.

I hope he steps down after this or gets a primary challenger at least.
