Bob Miller Sends Out Mailing in Road Commissioner Campaign — 29 Comments

  1. Probably the most well qualified Road Commissioner in Northern Illinois.

Works for his constituents, offers many services.

  2. What is this “cost efficient senior transportation program” Mr. Miller speaks of?

Is he praising the inefficient PACE/McRide programs?

  3. Probably the township bus, which typically is driving around with 1 person on it.

An elderly neighbor in a wheelchair needing a doctor visit shared that it was quite the chore to schedule and the pick up was sketchy upon availability, on both ends.
Not easy or very helpful. I was told the elderly driver was unable to assist. Not sure how the wheelchair gets on the lift, lawfully secured and off again.

They say a quick phone call is all you need.
I think they may cater to “regulars” and if they can fit the needs of a citizen needing few and far between trips, good luck.

  4. “Touch a Truck” Woweeeeeeeeee. That’s a wondrous achievement!

But I’d like a “Touch the Road Hog’s Neck” program …. that nepotistic wipe should be run outa Algnonquin on a rail!

Vote for Miller? Never in a thousand years! I’d rather vote for Hillary Clinton … and that’s really saying something!

  5. “Award-winning recycling program” Hmmmm …. who issued the award and when … what was it really for?

The only ‘recycling’ done by this goldbrick is recycling his family members in new Township sinecures’

He is the ABSOLUTE WORST of the worst!

  6. Is Miller serious? I always vote against candy-dates who use endorsements from other fleabag politicians.

“Touch a truck”???? what the heck is that? That’s what wealthy plantation owners allowed their slaves …..

  7. Don’t quote me on these numbers as they are old, one way, per trip average a year:
Pace cost is mid $50s, they have full time drivers, mechanics, and support staff with benefits.
Alg Twh cost is mid $30s, part time drivers, maintenance part of Twh mechanics duties and scheduling part of twh administrative staff duties.
Twh bus some days is under used, depending on demand.
Problem with private contractors is the wheel chair lifts which cabs don’t normally have.
There is no gov agency I know of that has a more complete and diverse recycling program.

  8. The township has nothing to do with pace. The county appoints our pace board member, so write Andy about that. I wish Pace ran a well as Algonquin Township. Bob Miller does a great job. I live on one of his roads {old man winter lives in Mchenry Township}.

  9. Recycling from the begining has been a sham. The EPA itself is so rife with criminals that we going to have to shut down all of it. Even if there were such a thing as award-winning recycling, it is tantamount to “winning” a Novel Peace Prize. Means NOTHING. This guy recycles his family into our dollars.

  10. “Higher Ground”…. are you an Algonquin Township employee? Get to work!!!

  11. I just read the card above and I am evem more infuriated. I don’t want ANY of those things. (And I want even less to pay for any of it.) They are all a total waste of our time and money. Why do I have to pay for others to do things I have already done for myself for years?

  12. There is some type of affiliation between Pace and Twh’s, ask the Twh if you really want that info,
Recycling started because landfills filling up and were taking in to much that could be reused.
Sham because some administer it poorly granted, but a needed service just the same.
Recycles family, LOL, no they only get hired once. LOL

  13. Cindy you are not the norm as a tax payer, most demand more services.
    You’re Abbey Normal. LOL

  14. Cindy,
You still haven’t named names on who the 911 attacker was that ran for President.

  15. Someone should look into the award winning recycling program as well as their USAgain program. Is there money involved with the for profit firms, and who is getting the check.

One should also inquire into the kings second job as president of the statewide township lobbying organization; how much of a tax payer salary is he receiving there?

  16. Remember when people had to pay down deposits for glass bottles?

Make the business/consumer pay for recycling not taxpayers.
Perhaps then people would become more conscientious of the waste they are producing, and help the environment in the meantime.

If I had to separate every piece of saran wrap out of my garbage it would make me think twice!

  17. USAgain is gone, a different out fit is there now.
If you have a question call or stop by and ask for that info.
A FOI may not even be needed.

  18. For those of you that don’t know, “Touch a Truck” is a volunteer effort that provides a weekend each year when the volunteers assemble a hundred or more different types of trucks for little kids to see and play in. It is a wonderful event that has spread to other (McHenry) townships. There is little or no cost to the taxpayers. My grandkids look forward to it every year. Thank you Mr. Miller and all of your wonderful helpers.

  19. Recycling programs paid for by the taxpayer are no different than bicycle paths.

Whether you use it / them or not, you pay!!

    Everyone pays – few benefit.

I understand Nunda Township purchased a semi trailer and tractor at one point to haul recyclables to Chicago.

  20. As someone who works in the construction equipment industry I drive by Alg. Township and see EXCESS. I would love to see some of the utilization reports on this equipment. Everything from the the F250 diesel trucks with decked out light bars, transfer tanks, and strobes they drive around in, to the 624K (A $200,000+ Piece of equipment is not the piece I would take a picture with and put it in a mailer), to the full size graders, to the snowplows (side plows and brine de-icing) they have that are comparable to if not better than plows in Colorado for 50 miles of road. How about looking into short term rental programs instead of lying out millions in taxpayers money. Companies that have this type of fleet are repaving 1000’s of miles a year.

  21. Nob has successfully outed me. Actually, my screen name (one of three) back in the day, was Abby Normal.

  22. To the infernally obtuse Moderate: The Butcher of Bagdad. Now leave it alone, you foolish progressive idiot (that cannot find their butt with two hands and a flashlight).

  23. Excess or the right equipment and vehicles to do a job you really seem not to understand?
Unlike a construction company, gov agencies have a different need for what they have, how it’s used, and importantly when.
Public works is different, often the job is related to emergencies, like snow plowing so police and fire depts can respond, which is not a normal function of a private construction company.
Perhaps stop by and ask why they, a gov agency, needs this or that equipment or vehicles, you’d end the obvious guessing game.
    F250 is a 3/4 ton, I believe there may also be F350, F450, and 1 1/2 ton F550s.
Slide in salt spreaders are heavy when loaded with salt, so a F450 or F550 is required.
624K Deer loader is nice size, size helps when lots of loading needs to get done quickly.
$200k sadly isn’t that much considering some fancy autos pull that in.
Light bars save lives, as a Fireman or Policeman.
Side blows are growing in Public works, more and more depts are getting them, they save passes that saves labor costs, which opens roads sooner, that could save lives.
Last time I was in Colo at the Sliverton pass, CDOT had a much bigger grader than Alg Twh’s, match to a big $500k loader to drag the grade off the edge of the cliff.
Amazing that they size to their demand isn’t it.

  24. To The Nob, yes I understand fleet management quite well as I work for one of the largest construction equipment manufactures in world and I understand what equipment is needed for a job. Simple strobes Yes Two points that I would really like to know. Hours of use per year on large machines(grader, road stripper, Tire roller etc) and has the township looked into renting equipment for specific jobs ever been considered.

  25. By the way I am not even in Alg Township (nunda) so I dont have any skin in this but I will say that ALG has done work in OWH and they have done a professional and good job with the various road repairs so I do not want to send the wrong message on quality of work. I need to stop commenting as I don’t want any conflict of interest. Just hope all the options are explored when capital purchases are being made.

  26. Bob has climbed the ladder, so to speak, within the Township of Illinois organization.

I do hope voters / taxpayers in Algonquin Township realize that he is running as a part time Commissioner but would be paid the full time salary plus benefits.

Oh, I do guess the Commissioner’s office would be well looked after by his spouse in his absence – at over $100,000 per year (salary and benefits) except when she is at home looking after the grandchildren.

It is absolutely sinful that he and his spouse are paid what they are for doing very, very little.

There are many other townships with more road miles where the Commissioner is paid half the salary and NOTHING is spent by the taxpayers on additional office labor.

  27. Concerned, loader get a fair work out, grader not so much as new cheaper equipment for putting down shoulder gravel has been invented.
Tire roller they share with the other THW’s which is true with most of the equipment.
Paint stripper is McH Twh’s, they strip for most of the twh’s.
I’d bet your company works the machines much harder and longer.
Nunda has kind of taken the lead on paving in trade for stripping and etc.
They try and share equipment more than ever, and rental isn’t common because the idea that if you need it now and they aren’t open or have rented that out deal.
If you’re off because of the weather or something stop by either place, it doesn’t hurt to inquire, in fact it’s better when tax payer do.

  28. Algonquin Township is a cash cow! They get more money from residents than any other Township in the County and the least amount of roads! I would hope that the roads they work on should be the best in the County! But that is only part of the issue. The way the Miller family has taken the taxpayers to town, literally and figuratively! The amount of money the family takes in between Bob, Anna May, Rebecca Lee(Lawyer), and son in laws is just Highway Robbery! The worst thing is that everyone of them probably could have went to work at another Township or Government agency but they just want to throw it in your face! This is one of the reasons Government gets a bad name!

  29. @Live – spot on. Lucky for the fam to get handed a lifetime “career” with exceptional pay!
Oh yeah, that’s how a family business operates.
