Is it possible that the Illinois Department of Transportation has finally figured out that Route 31 should be four lanes between Crystal Lake and McHenry?

Appears so, according to the public notice that appears below:

When this was last being considered a woman living on the east side of the hill south of Terra Cotta was certain that widening the road would eliminate a little creek running parallel to Route 31.

IDOT surely screwed up the flow of water in the little creek that runs south of Route 14 to the pond in Downtown Cary.

EPA rules with regard to watershed said the little creek was too small to worry about.

Hearing on Widening of Route 31 Between Crystal Lake & McHenry — 11 Comments

  1. That creek in Cary works fine now after IDOT had the concrete pipes sealed.
Cores would not of shown that there was a strata for the water to follow once disturbed.
The field engineer inspecting the job or the guys laying the pipe may have noticed high water content, but it was a dryer year till after the pipe was already in.

  2. Got to spend those “lock box” transportation dollars!!!!

  3. Rt. 47 between Huntley and Woodstock widening is needed desperately.
That would also be a jackpot for the revenue enhancement activities of the HPD
who can’t seem to apprehend robbers and burglars.

  4. Just get rid of the illegal aliens … and we’ll have no traffic jams

  5. Only 1 year ago IDOT completed the intersection of 176 and 31 (it took almost 3 years), widened about a 1/2 mile north and a few other spots along the way to 120 adding turn lanes here and there…..now they want to do what they should have done then. Illinois has the worst roads in the US and also the most costly, i.e., decades of corruption.

  6. Sometimes it feels like a new piece goes up and the slaves all rally. We are wont to clang our tin pots against the bars and then go back to suffering.

  7. How many times do the same roads have to be done again and again and again and…

  8. CP, Engineers say 8 to 10 years, but realistically it’s closer to double that.
Things wear out, life isn’t stagnate.
    Sorry, not my fault.

  9. I hope they put zippers in the ROW’s for the Utilities, talk about ripping up something over and over.

  10. It’s not 16 years since they last messed with 31. Fix it once, widen whatever.
