CL Police Find No Drunks on St. Pat’s Day

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

The Crystal Lake Police Department Announces St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Enforcement Results

Not a St. Patrick’s Day stop by Crystal Lake Police.

The Crystal Lake Police Department participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted during the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday Weekend. Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort from March 17 through March 20 to save lives by encouraging motorists to refrain from drinking and driving and to buckle up during late-night hours.

Because of the additional patrols, the Crystal Lake Police Department:

  • Conducted traffic stops on an additional 36 motorists for traffic violations

Issued a total of 29 additional traffic citations which included:

  • 18 citations for unlawful use of an electronic communications device
  • 5 citations for speeding
  • 3 citations for seatbelt violation
  • 2 citation for other moving violations and equipment
  • 1 citations for operation of an uninsured motor vehicle

In addition, one subject was arrested for Driving While License Suspended.

Part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns, this recent traffic enforcement operation was made possible by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Safety Programs.

  1. Zero citations for being here as an illegal alien.

Why aren’t the Crystal lake cops doing something about the 40+ illegals crammed into the house on Short Street by the RR tracks …. isn’t that a violation of all sorts of health code ordinances????

  2. No money to be made there, RR.

Remember, this is Illinois, and the machine must be fed.

  3. I find it upsetting that police and their respective communities are calling Irish drunks at least thats the way I perceive it …even outlawing booze from St Patricks day Parades….

I can imagine the public outcry of Racial profiling and bigotry if I would even suggest outlawing watermelons from the Bud Biliken day Parade or tacos and tequila from
    cinqo de mayo day………………

  4. So this is what I call harassment.

A Illinois Government funded program that designed to put drunks in jail BUT finds none in 36 traffic stops.

It’s nothing but added compensation for police under the vail of protecting the general public.

Not only that, they failed to fine any wrong doing in 20% of the stops.

    This is BS.

But you still have to drive sober because on these special sweep days their watching out for you…

More like looking to giving you a citation to generate money for the coffers of Crystal Lake.

  5. My friends, fasten your seatbelts and take care, for big brother is watching us all.

And if they can’t find an infraction, then they will invent one and attach a fine to it.
    Case in point, seatbelt laws.
