Bob Miller Selling Off Pickup Trucks & Trailer a Month Before Leaving Office — 39 Comments

  1. Are these vehicles that belong to the township?

Did our tsx dollars purchase these vehicles?

Where does the money go if there is a profit from the sales of said vehicles?

If they were purchased for the business of road commissioner, won’t the new commissioner need these vehicles?

  2. Great!

If Miller is successful in the sales, Gasser can use the money to lower next year’s levy!!

  3. Don’t be silly, conservative voter.

    I smell a rat.

Someone is trying to cover up something.

  4. One can submit a FOIA request for the documents related to the purchase of the two vehicles and trailer listed in the March 27, 2017 Northwest Herald Public Notice:

    – 2015 Ford F150 (408)

    – 2015 Ford F250 (444)

    – 2013 Griffin Utility Trailer (437).

Include a copy of the public notice in the FOIA Request.

Specify the documents should include but not be limited to documentation that was presented for payment of the vehicles and trailer including:

    – descriptions of the vehicle

    – purchase order(s)

    – copy of the invoice (s)

    – Date(s) of payment for the vehicles and trailer.

    – Itemized amount of payment for the vehicles and trailer

    – all approvals (specify individuals and dates) for the purchase

Can use this blog post as a guideline:

  5. Can also ask for documentation of the mileage of the vehicles when purchased.

Not sure how to obtain the current mileage of the vehicles; could simply ask for it and see if they respond.

If the government is selling a vehicle, there should be some way to obtain the current mileage.

Could also scour past board minutes and agendas on the Algonquin Township County Clerk website:

  6. Crazy as always, of course the money goes back to the township.

You can buy and sell equipment as a highway commissioner which he still is.

Why in the hell would you see a need to FOIA that?

It’s posted in a public ad, open for all you nut jobs to theorize conspiracies.

But if Gasser sells something it won’t be a problem.

    Loony tunes

  7. My guess is that these are the vehicles that Miller and his son in law drive, and they are probably the nicest vehicles in the department’s inventory.

By selling them now, Miller forces Gasser to either drive something that isn’t nearly as nice, or else take the politically embarrassing step of ordering a new vehicle for his own use.

Again, this is only my guess.

  8. Well Mark I would guess that one of the trucks was used by Bob, the trailer may be obsolete and maybe the other truck is now as well, so you sell them instead of insuring and plating and keeping.

Or maybe the warranties are up and that’s the policy there, FOIA away.

  9. The incumbent Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner (Bob Miller) was defeated in the February 28, 2017 Republican primary election by Andrew Gasser.

There is no Democrat candidate for Algonquin Township Highway Commissioner on the Tuesday April 4, 2017 ballot.

The Algonquin Township Annual Town Hall Meeting (at which the new Highway Commissioner will take the oath of office?) is Tuesday April 11, 2017.

The next Regular Board Meeting will be Wednesday April 12, 2017.

Bids for the two trucks and trailer are due by Friday April 21, 2017.

    +++++++++++++

The Algonquin Township Fiscal Year ends March 31, 2017 as indicated on the audited Annual Financial Report (AFR) and other places.

  10. And what are the warranties on the above items.

And what is the warranty policy at the Township.

That information could be obtained via FOIA also, requesting documents indicating such information.

  11. Go for it, 2015 trucks were probably purchased in 2014 so the manufacturers warranty could be done, have you ever purchased a new vehicle?

Maybe he thinks Gasser can’t climb in that truck he needs a minivan.

A trailer can become obsolete if what it hauled is not used anymore.

It’s a huge conspiracy going on here better not waste anymore time posting here, get that FOIA started.

  12. @The Mrs

Lol about the minivan and Gasser…..

He does appear to be a bit of a junk food mutant.

  13. Instead of bickering about dimes, spend more effort in making all the pension systems in Illinois solvent, by whatever means we can.

    As in Reduce and replace.

  14. According to the audit report, the purchase date and cost of these vehicles were:

    4/1/15 2015 Ford F250 Crewcab 4×4 Pickup 35,294

    7/8/15 2015 Ford F150 Crewcab 4×4 Pickup 27,409

  15. Funny I see no placards saying its of the township?

hummm may be personal use vehicles?

  16. I saw the public notice in the newspaper and this blog was my first choice to look for an exclamation.

Low and behold, here it is!

There is no way they will profit from selling this equipment.

Looks like money down the drain to me.

If there was a need for 2 pickups and a trailer in ’14-’15, that need should still be present.

The timing of this sale is too much of a coincidence.

Every time I see trucks and equipment with the township logos on them, I can’t help but wonder, why do they buy everything they could ever use/need?

Some of it sits most of the year while it depreciates in value faster than it collects dust.

And just to sell after 3 years, what a joke!

  17. These are not photos of the vehicles for sale.

I posted them so folks could see their price.

  18. I don’t think the Millers even had personal vehicles, paid for by them.

It’s my understanding that they all used township vehicles …..and gasoline.

It was also my understanding that the township bought a lot of vehicles/equipment and sold them well before the township got good use out of them.

Wonder what buyers were making out on those deals and if those buyers were contributors to the Miller campaign fund?

  19. Even Sheriff Nygren had County vehicles that were run into the ground before being replaced.

Why do they have to have new vehicles?

  20. Gee, CP because that is the ONLY family that can run the road commission office properly. Haven’t you been listening?

  21. I guess so.

I vaguely remember something about Judge Chmiel, a special bond court and one of the Millers.

    I believe that is correct.

  22. Time to get rid of those personal vehicles bought and paid for by the taxpayers.

I still find it interesting that Miller has joined up with the Progressives after his loss.

  23. I will be curious to see who buys the equipment and at what price.

  24. I emailed Mr. Miller asking for more information on the vehicles today. I’m waiting on a reply.

The more information available, the more possible bidders, the more money for the Township.

My husband may be interested, despite them being Fords.

  25. Andrew Gasser is not the King of Algonquin Township Republican Organization. Precinct Committeepersons should ask Andrew where was the meeting to decide after the Primary what support would be given to the Republican Candidates in the General Election. As Andrew told me he urged the Committeemen to bullet vote for Rachael Lawrence. When did the Board or the assembly vote on that? never. Andrews decisions are arbitrary and capricious.

Just because we are not the same kind of Republican you are Andrew doesn’t give you the right to fail to serve the single most important tenet of the ATRO, to promote good electable candidates. That is the charter of the ATRO.

Peoples monies were misappropriated by Andrew giving the $100 postage and telling committeemen to not recommend us to constituents. That money was to go to all candidates as well as mailers on behalf of the Candidates not just Rachael Lawrence. So in AT if you’re not Andrews friend it’s screw you? yeah that will move us ahead.

Not even a congratulations after the election shows that the current ATRO needs some examining and Committeemen should insist that Andrew do his job and that’s all and that means to give us a chance to speak to the Organization and let them make their own minds up and you don’t have to do what Andrew says.

So which of the 34 styles is the 2015 Ford F-250?

  27. No email response from Mr. Miller with answers to my questions about the specs of the vehicles yet.

    I thought Mr. Miller’s position was a full-time job.

Maybe it’s his Secretary that replies to email inquiries?

  28. Andrew would like the Ford fiesta for his vehicle to drive
Andrew is working with the Rabine Group to take over some of the work in the township!

  29. When Chapman says he’s a different kind of Republican it makes me wonder what that means.

Does he mean that he’s a RINO?

    Say it proudly Chapman.

Also, I saw his sign that says progressive government in big green letters.

Who are you trying to fool?

  31. I have said it before, as someone who works in the construction equipment industry I look at Alg. Townships fleet and all I see is excess.

These items are not needed and I would love to look at the utilization reports of the equipment they own.

That trailer would normally be put on a 7 year depreciation schedule with a minimum residual value so it certainly is not fully used. Gasser is going to be quite shocked when he or his staff does a hours used/cost analysis.
