Gurnee Man Dies in Hebron Crash

Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Traffic Crash in Hebron

April 2, 2017 A 29 year-old Gurnee man is dead following a single vehicle crash on U.S. Route 173 and Price Road in the Village of Hebron Saturday.

At 1:59 p.m. the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, Hebron Police Department, and the Hebron-Alden-Greenwood Fire Protection District responded to a single vehicle crash near the intersection of U.S. Route 173 and Price Road involving a 2002 Mercury Villager.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Mercury was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 173 Road at Price Road when it exited the roadway to the south, struck a tree, and caught fire.

The intersection of U.S. Route 173 and Price Road was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated. The driver and sole occupant of the Mercury was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the driver is being withheld until his family has been notified.

Due to damage to the vehicle, it was not readily apparent if airbags deployed or seat belts were used.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor and a determination will be pending toxicology results from the Coroner’s office.

An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

  1. It’s a shame that the sheriff’s office personnel drafting this release is ignorant of the fact that Route 173 is a state route.
