Conservation District Advertising for Police Officers — 9 Comments

  1. More political patronage jobs that are not needed to begin with.

I can’t wait until the next election, for obvious reasons.

  2. The Conservation District police are in the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) union.

The collective bargaining agreement expired March 31, 2017.

The March 23, 2017 Conservation District Board agenda had the following item:

17.2 Consideration of an Ordinance # 17-927 authorizing the execution of a Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Fraternal Order of Police.

The Conservation District does not have board agenda packets.

Even if it did, very few units of government post the collective bargaining agreement for public review, prior to board approval.

The state law should be changed, to mandate that collective bargaining agreements be posted for public review, prior to board approval; and to mandate that taxpayers are allowed to vote whether or not to approve the agreement.

The rank and file union members are allowed to view AND vote whether or not to approve the agreement.

The rank and file taxpayer, who funds the agreement, should also be allowed to view and vote whether or not to approve the agreement.

The Conservation District does not post the collective bargaining agreements on its website.

The County should pass a resolution requiring that the conservation district post the collective bargaining agreements on its website.

The County should pass a resolution requiring that tentative collective bargaining agreements be posted on the county website, at least two weeks prior to to the board vote on whether or not to approve the agreement.

The County should pass a resolution allowing the public to vote whether or not to approve tentative collective bargaining agreements.

The rank and file union members are allowed to vote whether or not to approve (ratify) the agreement.

The rank and file taxpayers should be allowed to vote whether or not to approve the agreement.

This is an important transparency and accountability measure that is currently not in place.

Will Jack Franks use his bully pulpit for this transparency and accountability measure?

  3. The Conservation District police ticket speeders on a state road?

  4. I’ve never been pulled over by one, but I see them sitting next to the road all the time near their HQ on 14.

I believe they have the same arrest and ticketing authority as sheriff’s deputies.

  5. They can give you a ticket for anything and the only officer that can inter your house with out a search warrant. (For illegal wild life or game)

  6. Why can’t county patrol conservation districts?

This is another level of govt. we don’t need!
