A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

The Crystal Lake Police Department Announces Results of Illinois Distracted Driving Awareness Week Campaign

In support of National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and Illinois Distracted Driving Awareness Week, the Crystal Lake Police Department dedicated more than 142 hours to the enforcement of state laws relating to distracted driving from April 24 through April 28.

Crystal Lake Police stop a car on Main Street near the Home State Bank branch.

During the campaign, officers issued 49 citations and 73 warnings for distracted driving offenses.

As an equally important component of the campaign, Crystal Lake officers handed out over 130 educational flyers to motorists stopped for distracted driving offenses.

The Crystal Lake Police Department takes traffic safety seriously, as it is a primary role and function of our organization that benefits all who travel in and through Crystal Lake.

We will continue to participate in campaigns such as this with the goals of promoting good driving behaviors and reducing traffic crashes.

  1. Gotta love the sleazy ways CL collects revenue?

Why aren’t the cops doing a damn thing thing about the drug house on Short Street?

  2. And how do we decide who is and who is not “distracted driver”? Were they simply oblivious of police being around them? Seeing a police car usually puts most people on alert. How did they find these scofflaws? And what is the enforcement for not paying attention? OldMan is right on the money, here. It is a terrible joke; and the joke is on us.

  3. I wonder how many of these 142+ man hours were overtime paid for by ‘free’ grant money?

  4. Why is a special program needed for this when it is
what the police should be doing every day ?
Just another governmental method of enhancing revenue by separating you
from your money in the name of safety, and a CLP PR scheme to boot.

  5. Sounds Like Somebody’s Mad.
Could it be Because Somebody’s Degenerate Kid got a ticket by CLPD?
Keep Up The Good Work my Fellow LE Friends!

  6. One fine day, they might stumble upon real community policing.

Until that day, we are stuck with this garbage.

  7. It’s simple, Put down the phone and drive.

Don’t endanger yourself and others and teach our youth by example.

Even if paying a small fine is the only way to get through their thick head.

The only garbage is you or your kid driving over a double yellow at me when i’m trying to get to work.

  8. stand really likes the police state we live under. More cheese for the whiners, please.

  9. Watch the police cars closely when they drive by.

    Notice any of them distracted?

Maybe we could ban ladies from putting on makeup while they drive.

Texting and driving is a problem, yes, but so is all this gestapo enforcement.

  10. Again, Just put down the phone and drive.
    It’s that Simple.

  11. Since CL is a de facto ‘sanctuary city’, it’s police dept does not equal law enforcement
