Person Reported Near Algonquin Dam Not Found by Algonquin-LITH Fire Department

Route 62 Bridge at Fox River Dam, Algonquin, Illinois Water Incident

At 9:20 p.m., June 1, 2017 the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded to a report of a subject in the water, near the low head dam on the Fox River at the Route 62 Bridge, in Algonquin.

A bystander notified the 911 dispatch center of a subject drifting towards the dam and possibly going over it.

First responding emergency personnel arrived on the scene within three minutes at 9:23 p.m. and began searching both north and south of the Route 62 dam, no subject was found.

The search was discontinued at 1:00 am and will resume at daylight. The Algonquin Police Department are looking into information on the possible subject.

Assistance was received from Huntley, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Barrington-Countryside, Woodstock,
Elgin, and Crystal Lake Fire Departments.

  1. Such dams are small in stature but very powerful and dangerous due to the water circulation under the water surface.
