Republican Senators Opposed Two-Year Property Tax Freeze Because They Want Four

When I looked at the Senate roll call for the real estate tax freeze bill (Senate Bill 482), I discovered that the three local Republican State Senators voted against it.

I reached out to them and got the following reply from State Senator Pam Althoff:

“Cuz we want four.”

State Senator Dan McConchie replied,

“There were too many exceptions and the Governor didn’t believe it went long enough.”

  1. Should we conclude from this that Althoff is OK with excluding schools?

Meanwhile the pension funding crisis deepens while public salaries continue to increase.

  2. They won’t support any tax freeze in reality because they know how it will hit local government.

If you was a property tax freeze, quit looking to Springfield, engage local government yourself.

Springfield is merely looking for a sound byte.

When I look at my property tax bill, I see noting going to the Governor or other state officials.

  3. Public Policy is so askew in Illinois, it’s got you thinking now, it’s a win to “freeze” the highest tax bills in the nation.

    Freeze this Pols.

How about a 1.7 percent ceiling?

As in like the average the rest of the country pays.
