Predicting Madigan Will Cave on Property Tax Freeze

Sometime ago, I predicted that House Speaker Mike Madigan would agree to a real estate tax freeze.

I based that predication on the fact that he caved on Governor Jim Edgar’s demand that there be a Property Tax Cap.

That ended up being phased in with the opportunity for most Downstate tax districts to sock it to taxpayers one last year and delaying its restrictions on Cook County for at least a year, but Madigan caved.

The Tribune reports that this year’s Cook County taxes will increase 10%.

The following alert from the Chicago Tribune gives me the confidence that pressure on Madigan this year will be so great that he will agree to some type of property tax freeze:
