14 Years for Arson

A press release for McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally:

JOSEPH ZIEGLER SENTENCED TO 14 ½ YEARS IN THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR THE OFFENSE OF RESIDENTIAL ARSON

Patrick Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that Joseph Ziegler, 27, formerly of Round Lake Beach, was sentenced to 14 ½ years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offenses of Residential Arson.

On August 9, 2012, Ziegler brought a propane tank to the area of Pistakee Highlands in McHenry intending to set fire to a household of a person who he thought was responsible for stealing his narcotics.

Ziegler, however, set fire to the house of a nearby neighbor of the intended target.

The house was left so damaged that it was uninhabitable.

This case was prosecuted by Robert Zalud and David Johnston of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office. This case was investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
