Crystal Lake Police Charge Two Men with Drug Induced Homicide

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

Two Men Charged with Drug Induced Homicide

John Galloway

On May 18, 2017, Crystal Lake Police responded to a home located in the 1700 block of Nashville Lane for a report of an unresponsive male located within the residence.

Officers arriving on scene determined the male, twenty years of age, was deceased.

Items observed in plain view located within close proximity to the deceased aroused suspicion that illegal drug use was involved in his death.

Crystal Lake detectives, in coordination with the McHenry County Coroner’s Office, immediately initiated a complex and thorough criminal investigation that spanned over seven weeks, conducting several interviews and exploring numerous leads.

Seth Ferguson

The Crystal Lake detectives’ persistent approach to this investigation uncovered that a controlled substance, heroin, was delivered to the deceased just prior to his death and was later determined by the Coroner’s Office to be the cause of death.

On July 7, 2017, Crystal Lake detectives obtained arrest warrants for two adult males. Both men were already incarcerated on unrelated charges and were served with the following warrants/charges while in custody:

John H. Galloway (18) – 1725 Hartford Lane, Crystal Lake, IL

  • Drug Induced Homicide – (Class X Felony)
  • Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance – (Class 1 Felony)
  • Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance – (Class 4 Felony)

Currently confined at the McHenry County Jail in lieu of one million dollars bond.

Seth Ferguson (22) – 527 Delaware Drive, Lake in the Hills, IL

  • Drug Induced Homicide – (Class X Felony)
  • Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance – (Class 1 Felony)

Currently confined at the Cook County Jail in lieu of one million dollars bond.
