The liberals who fun Springfield passed a law which requires Christian organizations who counsel women who are pregnant and don’t know what to do to tell those who enter their doors that abortion is an option.
1st Way Pregnancy Support Services was one of two formerly-called “crisis pregnancy centers” who have filed suit in Federal court to invalidate the law, which took effect in January.
The suit’s argument is two-fold:
- the law violates their freedom of speech, forcing them to give advice they find morally reprehensible
- the law violates a Federal statute which bans discrimination against health care providers who do not send patients to abortion clinics
The Thomas More Society is handling the case, which will be tried in Rockford.
A Winnebago state judge has stopped enforcement of the law until litigation is completed.
