County Health Department Offering Free Water Testing

Found the following information that will be useful to those with wells, especially those with shallow wells like my neighbors’ in Lakewood:

Well and Septic Testing

For residents whose private well casings have been submerged, drinking water could be contaminated.

Use bottled water for drinking until your water has been tested.

Once flood waters recede, MCDH will perform testing at no charge for flooded private water wells.

Septic systems that are underwater will not function properly and must not be used.

Not only does using a submerged system further contaminate flood water, it could create an electrical hazard if the system involves a pump or other equipment.

I’m hoping the McHenry County Healthy Department will have the bottles at its Route 14 office in Crystal Lake, which is located across the road from Woodstock Street. There is a traffic signal there and a big sign indicating that is the location of the animal control and adoption facility.
