McSweeney Says State Aid to Ed Bill Sets Up Illinois for Another Tax Hike

Responding to a question as to why he voted against the State Aid to Education bill today, State Rep. David McSweeney said it promise of $7.5 billion more over the next ten years to meet the new adequacy standards sets up the state for another tax hike.

The Barrington Hills legislator pointed out that the bill gives Chicago $7 million more than the first compromise version.

“This provides $450 more in Fiscal Year 2018 for the Chicago School System,” he said.

    Another bill that is for state aid to local school districts is Senate Bill 1 (SB 1).

    That bill also had action in the State House of Representatives today.

    The Overide Amendatory Veto in the House for SB 1 failed 63-45 today.
