70’s Man Hit on His Bicycle in Crystal Lake

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department:

Elderly Bicyclist Injured

On August 30, 2017, at approximately 2:10 pm, Crystal Lake Police and Fire/Rescue responded to the area of Main Street and Walkup Extension for the report of a bicyclist that was struck by a car.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located the victim bicyclist, an elderly man in his 70’s, on the roadway.

Rescue workers immediately began providing first aid and later transported the victim to an area hospital for further treatment.

The victim, located unconscious on scene, sustained serious injuries.

The cause of the injuries sustained by the victim remains under investigation. Initial reports indicated the victim was struck by a car; however, we cannot presently confirm the information provided as being accurate.

Witnesses reported seeing a small, silver sedan, driven by a white male wearing a neon colored shirt, in the immediately vicinity after the bicyclist was discovered unconscious on the road.

This sedan left prior to police arrival.

Southbound Main Street was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours while our Accident Investigation Team began their examination of the scene.

The Accident Investigation Team continues to actively pursue the cause of the incident.
