Governor Rauner Reveals Political Death Wish in Signing Pro-Abortion Bill

The following press release is from Governor Bruce Rauner.

In the summer of 2013, Bruce Rauner was one of four Republican gubernatorial candidates who courted Pro-Lifers at Irene Napier’s Pig Roast.

With Pro-Lifers being a large enough part of a Republican’s political base that all four GOP gubernatorial aspirants attended the 2013 Pro-Life Pig Roast in McHenry County in 2013, it does not take a crystal ball to figure out that a large percentage of Pro-Lifers will not be voting for Rauner for re-election.

Here is the press release”

Gov. Bruce Rauner announces he will sign HB40 [and does so], protecting a woman’s right to choose

CHICAGO (Sept. 28, 2017) –Governor Bruce Rauner made the following statement concerning his decision to sign House Bill 40:

“I understand abortion is a very emotional issue with passionate opinions on both sides. I sincerely respect those who believe abortion is morally wrong. They are good people motivated by principle.

“But, as I have always said, I believe a woman should have the right to make that choice herself and I do not believe that choice should be determined by income. I do not think it’s fair to deny poor women the choice that wealthy women have.

“That is why I am signing HB40.

“This is not a new position – I campaigned on this principle in 2014 and it is a principle I have tried to live up to throughout my life.

“I have spent the past couple of months talking to people on both sides of this issue. I have also spent a lot of time meeting with women across Illinois and listening to their personal stories, particularly low-income women who do not have the same luxuries that many of us have. Their stories and their struggles are real and they have touched me in a very personal way. They deserve to have a choice as much as anyone else.

“I know there will be many people who disagree and I respect their opinions.

These McHenry County Pro-Lifers from whom Bruce Rauner sought support in the summer of 2013 will be among those whose votes he probably can’t count on in 2018.

“I respect their passion. It is my hope that good people can disagree respectfully and can come together on other important issues that affect our state.”

  1. Stick a fork!

Even William Kelly would be an improvement!

  2. Good for him. There should be no argument.

Thanks Governor for standing up and allowing women to make the choice that is best for them.

Government has no business making that very personal and emotional decision.

  3. He needs a Pro Life primary challenger!

    Regardless he’s a one termer!

  4. Illinois is dead.

So is anyone that believes murder is ok.

    God will NOT be mocked.

  5. RINO Rauner just roasted himself.

The only question now is who will step up to fill the void as
he will not be receiving any support from the base.

What a shameful disappointment Rauner is.

  6. Great!

More tax dollars for baby killing.

Always a bedrock tenant of conservative Republicans.

  7. Government should have no business making very personal and emotional decision when deciding where my child goes to school, whether to have or not have health insurance, taxing someone more because they make more money than someone else, taxing someone because their parents passed away etc..

  8. Sunshine blogger: That little white dog seems more than ready to eat your ugly and lazy cat alive…tic, tock, tic, tock…

  9. What a bunch of miserable governors this State has elected in the last 50 years.

The last two were/are incredibly incompetent.

The previous two governors before them went to jail, Blago and Ryan.

Before these, two went to jail.

    Kerner and Walker.

Has this State been cursed by a goat or something else?

  10. We missed the greatest opportunity in Illinois’ history by not electing our paparazzi freeloader sunshine blogger back in 2002. Let’s put it this way, it’s better to have him around taking in-the-face pictures of Jack Franks and posting ridiculous, irrelevant stories, than in prison…tic, tock, tic, tock…

  11. bred? More likely cursed by the Satanic fools that run everything out of Illinois. Watch for Northern Trust to be taken out by God. Keep praying against the demons. It’s the only thing holding this state together right now. (That would be the righteous.)

  12. Walker’s jail time had nothing to do with what he did as Governor.

Press Conference: Governor Rauner’s Deception on Reproductive Rights

    September 19, 2017

“At a press conference on April 19, Personal PAC President & CEO, Terry Cosgrove, held Governor Rauner accountable: “Governor Rauner’s intention to veto HB 40 after submitting Personal PAC’s 2014 Questionnaire [that clearly stated his support for repealing the ban of Medicaid funding for abortion] is not only dishonest, it defrauds every voter who took him at his word and mistakenly believed him to be an honest man.”
