McHenry County Coroner, Dr. Anne Majewski, announced this evening that her office is investigating the death of a man who died yesterday late morning, September 27, 2017, in a single motor vehicle crash in rural McHenry, Illinois.

A 911 call came in at 10:19 am with McHenry Township Fire and Rescue and McHenry County Sheriff’s Police responding to the scene in the 5400 block of Flanders Road.

The driver of the vehicle, Gerald Goodwin, age 61 of Lake Villa, Illinois, was extricated from the vehicle then transported to Centegra McHenry Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead at 11:17am the same day.

Prior to the crash, witnesses reported seeing the man having seizure type activity as he was slumped over the steering wheel.

While trying to assist him, the car began rolling forward then accelerated at a high rate of speed, crashing into a tree down the road.

An autopsy performed earlier today revealed that he died from blunt force injuries to the head and chest.
