INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – State Representative Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee) is donning his fire proof race gear and strapping into a racecar to once again raise awareness about pet rescue and adoption. Earlier this year,

Skillicorn drove the Rescue Pet Motorsports (RPM) Honda CRX at the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Majors road race at Blackhawk Farms Raceway to qualify for the National Championships.

Rescue Pet Motorsports is an organization dedicated to spreading the word about pet rescue and adoption.

“As dog owners and volunteers for our local animal shelter, pet rescue and adoption is particularly important to me and my wife,” said Skillicorn.

“Every year, approximately 6.5 million pets enter shelters in the U.S., but only about half will be adopted by a loving family. With so many animals in need of loving homes, anything we can do to help raise awareness is necessary.”

Skillicorn took third place in the Super Touring Light class at the Majors event earlier in the year, qualifying Rescue Pet Motorsports for the SCCA National Championships at historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week.

This time, Skillicorn is racing the RPM modified Mazda Miata.

Racing at the National Championships at Indianapolis gives RPM a national stage to increase awareness about pet rescue and adoption issues.

In addition to volunteering and racing to increase pet rescue awareness, Skillicorn also actively works on legislation in Springfield. One piece of legislation, House Bill 2810<http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/billstatus.asp?DocNum=2810&GAID=14&GA=100&DocTypeID=HB&LegID=104213&SessionID=91>, was recently signed into law and will become effective next year. The legislation ensures mistreated animals will not be returned abusive owners.
