Big Crowd at Sheriff Bill Prim’s Marengo Event

We’re midway through the petitioning process.

So far, no opponent, Republican or Democrat–has raised his or her hand saying he or she is willing to run against Sheriff Bill Prim.

So maybe a “wanting to back the winner” syndrome explains the good turnout in Marengo.

Maybe it was the good free food found.

Or maybe it was people wanted to meet Prim.

Regardless, there were a lot of people in attendance at at Joe’s Place on Route 20.

The Sheriff spoke briefly, but I was too busy taking photos and didn’t start jotting down notes until the end of his talk.

“We’ve worked hard to change the culture,” he said.

He explained that the Department has twenty-seven fewer employees than when he took office.
And all were from attrition.

He touched on the suit against him [for not immediately releasing illegal aliens], but explained that his policy was not to speak about pending legislation in public.

There was lots of politicking.

People were passing their and others’ petitions.

Soft drinks were free, but there was a cash bar.
