A press release from State Rep. Allen Skillicorn:

Skillicorn Appointed to Special Task Force to Address Sexual Harassment

CRYSTAL LAKE – Today, State Representative Allen Skillicorn (R-East Dundee) was appointed by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) to a special task force formed to address sexual harassment and discrimination.

The Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment will conduct a comprehensive review of sexual misconduct problems in Illinois and provide recommendations for action in 2018.

“No person should ever have to worry about being sexually victimized and it’s upsetting that we are still dealing with so many cases of harassment in 2017,” said Skillicorn.

“The fact that we still are dealing with so many cases means we need to conduct a thorough review of the causes of the problem to produce lasting change. Another feel good solution is not good enough for this problem.”

House Resolution 687, which created the task force, directs the task force to conduct a comprehensive review of the legal and social consequences of sexual discrimination and harassment, in both the public and private sectors. Following its review, the task is directed to recommend specific legislation to address this heinous problem and curb its impact on our society.

In addition, Skillicorn also filed legislation during the recent Veto Session to address the sexual harassment problem so some action would be taken before the task force completes its work.

House Bill 4149 creates a new reporting hotline for both the public and private sectors.

The bill ensures anonymity of victims, empowers the Attorney General’s office to connect victims with counseling and protective services, and provides the Attorney General’s office with greater ability to prosecute offenders.
