Eating Advice from the Health Department

A press release from the McHenry County Health Department:

Eat right and exercise during the Holidays

Lower your risk of developing prediabetes

WOODSTOCK IL – McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) reminds residents that exercising and wholesome eating during the Holidays are essential.

This turkey didn’t get the axe.

Not only can diet and exercise help reduce Holiday stress, but the risk of developing prediabetes is lower.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), nearly 1 in 4 four adults who is living with diabetes don’t know they have the condition.

Even more sobering are CDC statistics showing that 1/3 of all Americans have prediabetes and 90% are unaware.

Most people develop prediabetes, which often has no visible symptoms, before developing type 2 diabetes.

Prediabetes means a person’s blood glucose (sugar) level is higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

According to Meaghan Haak, Program Coordinator for the MCDH Community Health Program,

“Having prediabetes doesn’t inevitably mean that you will develop Type 2 diabetes.

“Many people can actually lower blood glucose levels to the normal range by exercising and making healthy food choices.”

According to the American Diabetes Association, research shows that you can lower your type 2 diabetes risk by 58% just by losing 7% of your body weight (or 15 pounds if you weigh 200 pounds) and exercising moderately (such as brisk walking) 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

  1. Happy Thanksgiving Cal.

Remember to turn you scale back ten pounds.

  2. Sunshine blogger, I understand your dilemma. On the one hand, all those republican fundraiser free meals are keeping your belly busy and growing bigger and bigger; on the other hand, you need to fulfill your journalistic mission on keeping us informed about relevant stories pertaining the well being of the good McHenry county citizenry. We support your self-sacrificing mission and thank you for it. Keep up the good work of irresponsible re-posting, political gossip, character assassination and minorities’ trashing…tic, tock, tic, tock…

  3. Thanksgiving.

    Thanks and giving.

Unfortunately we see too many today who are ingrates or are takers, freeloaders.

An example would be the father of the college basketball player who was caught shoplifting in China and faced a number of years in jail.

No thanks from the father to our President who obtained the release of the shoplifter college player and two of his teammates.

The father could not put politics aside and thank the President.

The father was such a jerk that he thought his son should have flown back to the U.S. on Airforce One.

  4. Everybody please join me and thank Barack Hussein Obama for eliminating Osama Bin Laden from the face of this Earth. Baby Bush could not get the job done. Happy Thanksgiving and stop the cheap nonsense. Tic, tock, tic, tock…

  5. OBL died quietly of kidney failure December 2001. Keep tap dancing doofus.

  6. Another victory for our sexual-assaulter-in-chief tronald chump coming straight from the courthouse. Oh, wait a minute. His racist executive order declared unconstitutional for the nth time? Perhaps our constitution lovers learn to read and respect this document before declaring unconditional love for it.

“A federal judge on Monday permanently blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order to cut funding from cities that limit cooperation with U.S. immigration authorities.

U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick rejected the administration’s argument that the executive order applies only to a relatively small pot of money and said Trump cannot set new conditions on spending approved by Congress.

The judge had previously made the same arguments in a ruling that put a temporary hold on the executive order targeting so-called sanctuary cities. The Trump administration has appealed that decision to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

“The District Court exceeded its authority today when it barred the President from instructing his cabinet members to enforce existing law,” Department of Justice spokesman Devin O’Malley said in a statement late Monday. “The Justice Department will vindicate the President’s lawful authority to direct the executive branch.”
Orrick’s ruling came in lawsuits brought by two California counties, San Francisco and Santa Clara.

San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera said the ruling was “a victory for the American people and the rule of law.”

“President Trump might be able to tweet whatever comes to mind, but he can’t grant himself new authority because he feels like it,” he said in a statement.

A lawyer for the DOJ argued during a hearing before Orrick in April that the executive order applied to only a few grants that would affect less than $1 million for Santa Clara County and possibly no money for San Francisco.

But the judge disagreed, saying in his rulings that the order was written broadly to “reach all federal grants” and potentially jeopardized hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to San Francisco and Santa Clara.

He cited comments by the president and Attorney General Jeff Sessions as evidence that the order was intended to target a wide array of federal funding. And he said the president himself had called it a “weapon” to use against recalcitrant cities.

The Trump administration separately has also moved to withhold one particular law enforcement grant from sanctuary cities, prompting a new round of lawsuits that are pending.”

And the clock keeps ticking…Happy Thanksgiving! tic, tock, tic, tock…

  7. Hey Honest, there is no investigation going on concerning the Russian uranium deal.
Stock market climbing based on strong corporate profits which have been building ever since President Obama got us out of the “great recession”, which was in part caused by Bush tax cuts. Trump is trying to see if history will repeat itself.
Angel, keep up the good work!

  8. U.S. citizens who give aid or comfort to illegal aliens, illegal immigrants, and support sanctuary cities and sanctuary states are fools. They can also be termed useful idiots in that they have been easily conned by the Democrat Party’s agenda to give rights, including citizenship, to illegal immigrants.

The mostly left wing media is composed mainly of Democrats and/or Democrat sympathizers and they continually use narrative that equates “illegal immigrants” to immigrants who have obeyed U.S. law and have legally immigrated to the U.S. This media is corrupt in that they frequently refer to illegal and illegal immigrants as simply “immigrants”.
