The Village of Johnsburg brings me news that Illinois is 200 years old on December 3rd a year from now.
I can only wonder how the state lasted this long with Democrats doing their best to live for today, letting the future take care of itself.
The problem is unpaid pension debt.
Even with the Donald Trump stock market surge, Illinois and its municipalities have severe pension payment problems. (Let me say that local municipal pension debt is not for folks in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund, but rather the police and firemen funds.)
But, back to the celebration.
On Monday, December 4th at Noon counties and municipalities throughout the state are hosting Raise the Flag ceremonies to kick off a yearlong celebration for Illinois’ 200th year of statehood.
This yearlong celebration will pay tribute to the people, places, and things that are being BORN, BUILT & GROWN here every single day.
Our Bicentennial is a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to fall in love with Illinois all over again, and it will showcase Illinois’ influence on American history, achievement, culture, innovation, and more.
Together, we can inspire pride in Illinois and show the world what makes this state so great.
Join us at the Johnsburg Village Hall at Noon on December 4th for our flag raising ceremony.
