Rep. David McSweeney Introduces Bill Prohibiting Lawmaker COLAs

A press release from the General Assembly:

Rep. McSweeney Again Pushes for Legislation to Prevent a Pay Raise for Illinois Legislators

Cary, IL – State Rep. David McSweeney (R-Barrington Hills) has again introduced legislation to prevent legislators from receiving a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) pay increase in the upcoming Fiscal Year.

David McSweeney

Last year, McSweeney was a Chief Co-Sponsor of a similar COLA ban (HB 643) for legislators, which is now in effect for the current Fiscal Year ending on June 30, 2018.

McSweeney recently introduced a bill (HB 4262) prohibiting lawmakers from receiving a COLA increase for next Fiscal Year, which begins on July 1, 2018.

“Illinois is woefully behind in paying its bills and I think it would be inappropriate for legislators to receive pay increases,” McSweeney said.

“Last year, some legislators forced a massive tax increase on Illinois residents and passed an unbalanced budget.

The last thing legislators deserve is a pay increase.

We should be focused on reducing spending and lowering taxes.”

House Bill 4262 has been introduced and awaits assignment to a legislative committee.

  1. Not saying it’s a bad idea but does anyone in Springfield have a serious plan to get us out of debt? And if you have one bring it forward to the people! Force the lawmakers to start getting crap done! Start bringing a sensible plan to the forefront even if it has tough decisions! This state does nothing but kick the can down the road!

  2. Time better spent on developing and promoting Republican Plan for Massive Entitlement Reform as debt from these entitlements is the Tsunami engulfing Illinois property owners rather than splashing one’s feet in a puddle of something so insignificant as pay increases. Time spent by IL legislators on any issue other than Pension Reform is simply rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Time for IL Republican State Representatives to focus on what is strangling Illinois by working with Jeannie Ives developing and promoting a comprehensive plan for serious debt reduction in order which will get her elected and get Illinois moving again.

The only reason Illinois is not at junk status is because the rating companies are paid by the bondholders who cannot afford a ranking at this level, but should be.

  3. Wonderful job by republicans adding $1.7 trillion with the recent tax scam passed last December. Oh, wait, it was only $1.4 trillion. My bad. What should we do then? That’s it! Get our blessed, republican, family values hands on Medicare and Social Security. Isn’t that creative? New Deal anybody? We know these republicans all too well…Stay tuned…tic, tock, tic, tock, tic, tock…

  4. Pension reform for government workers and retirees is in dire need in the State of Illinois. Our State is the worst of 50 in the U.S. fiscally. The Illinois Constitution must be changed so that the present cola formula is abolished or at least is altered to use the same criteria for yearly raises as does Social Security. Pensions in the private sector rarely have provisions for colas.

  5. National Debt under the last President Bush went up $4.9 Trillion, or an average of $611 Billion/year. Not very good. If Bush was a spendaholic, then President Obama was twice as bad, much much worse as Democrats are wont to be.

National Debt during the 8 years of President Obama went up $9.32 Trillion which is an average of $1.165 Trillion per year.

  6. Why should they be getting a COLA when they’re
driving people and businesses out of Illinois to begin with ?

  7. Showboat, no gloat. How can you sail when you are riding a tug boat?

Absurd, big bird when do we get to flush down this big turd?

  8. When a man enters the reeking Springfield Swamp, aka Vortex of Madiganistan, he quickly becomes a catamite, like the male prostitute Reick, because of all the moolah.

But McSweeny didn’t need their cash and wouldn’t sell us out, like the rentboy Reick.

Reick is actually a sort of ‘trans’ hustler, bc he claimed to be something we never was, a conservative GOPer, so he ‘transed’ into being a common Springfield slut, to be used by payers, like the Township Officials’ crime syndicate.

Reick repulses me, and this explains why Reick made rude comments about McSweeney’s speech at the McHenry GOP dinner

    cuckservative

A cuckservative is a self-styled “conservative” who will cravenly sell out and undermine his home country’s people, culture, and national interest in order to win approval with parties hostile or indifferent to them.

This cuckservative just spent 20 minutes trying to convince a group of communists that he really isn’t as racist, sexist, homophobic or transphobic as they said he was for supporting the free market. They didn’t care.

  10. Wow, excellent u-tubes sword, but I don’t get the polyglot languages or alphabet soup>

  11. My Fit Bit App tells me I got 2,447,508 steps last year.

A little short of the steps an Illinois Leg needs, to get some spending cut.
