Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (IL-14) announced he has hired a new Chief of Staff, Dean Peterson, to lead his office following the departure of his former chief, Katherine McGuire, to be Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Labor.

“I am thrilled to bring a good friend and an experienced Capitol Hill veteran to my team to help serve the people of the 14th District,” said Rep. Hultgren.

“Dean has devoted his life to public service—from filling virtually every role in a congressional office to fighting daily against our nation’s opioid epidemic at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.

Dean brings a depth of government and communications experience which will serve my office well.

My entire staff and I will dearly miss Katherine as she leaves to serve at the Department of Labor, and we wish her the very best.

As we say goodbye to her, we welcome Dean with great anticipation and excitement.”

Dean Peterson was most recently Executive Director of Communications at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, a national addiction treatment provider that has a facility in Chicago.

Previously, he was Chief of Staff for senior Ways and Means Committee Member, Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN), and served in various other congressional staff roles prior to that role, including Press Secretary and Legislative Director.

He helped Congressman Hultgren launch his initial and successful campaign for Congress in 2010. Dean and his wife, Lyle, have four children.

  1. Government is hysterical. Leaving “to be Assistant Secretary” for blah blah blah, blah blah blah.

And I’m the Assistant Undercounsel for the Department of Displaced Internet Hobos Aimlessly Wandering Library Restrooms.

  2. Congressman Hultrgren, is a decent man. Most of his kids has attended, Moody Bible institute. His character as a Republican is flawless and his values remain intact.
