McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition receives 1,000 doses of NARCAN Nasal Spray

A press release from the Illinois General Assembly:

McHenry, IL… State Senator Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) and State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) thank the AptarGroup and Adapt Pharma for their donation today of 1,000 doses of NARCAN Nasal Spray to the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition.

NARCAN (naloxone) Nasal Spray is an emergency treatment that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose when an adequate dose is administered in time.

State Senator Dan McConchie

The nasal spray delivers a 4 mg dose of naloxone without any required assembly or specialized medical training.

“The need for this kind of treatment here in McHenry County is as high as ever,” said Sen. Althoff.

“It’s unfortunate, but lives are being destroyed every day in Illinois by the opioid and heroin epidemic.

I am thrilled Aptar is recognizing that need here in my home community.

Today’s donation will truly make a difference and will save the lives of so many who fall into opioid addiction.”

“Naloxone is saving lives every single day,” said Sen. McConchie.

“Just last year, McHenry County saw 58 deaths attributed to opioid overdoses—that’s 80 percent of all overdose deaths in the county for 2017.

Today’s donation, along with the efforts of the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition, will help ensure that there is access across the county to naloxone.”

  1. More PR that they’re cranking out in Springfield. Do they actually think we believe our legislators are doing much besides keeping their seat warm? Voting “present” putting their finger to the wind” Gov.Rauner has been without the support of our own Republican State Reps and Senators,
And all the while Madigan and Cullerton stand there watching them fail. We deserve better from our legislators.

  2. Yet again the public is being ‘played’.

First we invade Afghanistan and order our troops to not damage the poppy fields.

Next we change zoning laws to allow the ready establishment of ‘Pain Control Ceneters’.

Simultaneously we ensure our borders remain open to allow the easy importation of synthetic heroin manufactured with chemicals shipped from China to Mexico.

Then pain control prescriptions are reduced with the result of a movement to the procurement of illegal heroin (natural and synthetic).

Now are seeing the change of zoning laws to provide for the easy establishment of “addiction recovery centers” and ‘group homes’.

In an attempt to hide the real problem (open borders and poppy production protection in Afghanistan) politicians try to control the number of overdose deaths with more taxpayer dollars to ensure a continuation of the so-called ‘war on drugs’.

Why don’t we simply close the ‘pain control centers’?

    Let the fun begin!

  3. I am not sure who the new @gofigure is but I have been here for a while now and that isn’t me. Rauner has had support up until some Republicans caved on the budget. But outside of that he has had nothing but support. He has blundered on his own and continues to do so! But back to this thread. This is just a waste of time. I read a statistic a while back and this drug is having very little effect on saving people. Why because when they do get saved the people that are addicted continue to do what they do. You are prolonging their death and saving very few. Is the money worth it and putting the burden on police? As more and more statistics come out will be very interesting. Does anyone know if there is a shelf life for this drug? If you don’t use it then you have to replenish it. Cost a lot of money to taxpayers for someone’s choices!

  4. No doubt that politicians are involved with the distribution of illegal drugs. A certain former president was reportedly involved way back in Chicago.
However, having known many who have overdosed from heroin, I am in favor of anything that could have saved them.
There is a special place in hell for the politicians involved in this trade.
