McSweeney Working to Defeat Rauner-Madigan Teacher Pension Shift to Local Property Taxpayers

State Rep. David McSweeney took up the fight to prevent the enactment of the shift of burden for teacher pensions from state taxpayers to local real estate tax payers.

He has introduced House Resolution 27, which

McSweeney Working to Defeat Rauner-Madigan Teacher Pension Shift to Local Property Taxpayers — 6 Comments

  1. Why havn’t Reick and Wheeler signed on?

And what’s with Yinlings’ I sponsor it, I don’t sponsor it, I sponsor it and now he is Chief co-sponsor?

    Is Yingling being bought?

  2. Who pays for it as is?

    The state of Illinois?

Seems like with property taxes they’d be more likely to raise them immediately, while the state is more likely to create IOUs.

I can see how not wanting higher property taxes is politically popular, but those pensions are gonna get paid one way or another…

Issues like this don’t excite me. You’re pretty much arguing over whether you want to jump off a bridge or shoot yourself in the head.

  3. Shift the liability to put the accountability to the local school districts, place a property tax cap (2% cap, rolling back 0.5% annually until the cap is hit as to allow for proper planning), and place fee caps for school items such as activities/books/etc.

This will force the betterment of living conditions to raise home prices and increase tax revenue collected.

Unfortunately anything short of this is too little.

  4. McSweeney: Honest, Good, Courageous
    Althoff: Sneaky, Lying, RINO
Reick: Ignorant, Irresponsible, RINO (and also a goldbrick who won’t pay off judgments against himself)

  5. It is a resolution, not a bill.

    It means nothing.

Pretty much par for the course for McSweeny, AKA Captain Obvious.

  6. You are correct that even passage of the measure would not bind those voting in favor of it.

However, it is an early marker with which constituents might gain information of whether their state reps might vote to increase our property taxes by shifting teacher and junior college pensions to the local level.
