Gun Drawn at Volkswagen Dealership in Service Dispute

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Deprtment:

Aggravated Assault and Disorderly Conduct Arrests

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, at approximately 2:50pm, Crystal Lake police officers responded to Volkswagen of Crystal Lake, 5213 Northwest Highway, for a report of a subject who had just pointed a gun at dealership employees. Upon arrival, officers learned that a customer/management dispute had taken place over the servicing of a vehicle.

During the dispute, a male subject, who was a passenger in the vehicle, removed a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at dealership employees but did not discharge any rounds.

The occupants of the vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Employees of the dealership provided a description of the vehicle, the driver, and two passengers, including the passenger who displayed the handgun.

Officers located the vehicle and the driver shortly after.

The driver, identified as Brian Nowak (23) of 615 Claymont Court, Algonquin, was arrested for Disorderly Conduct (Class C Misdemeanor) for his role in the incident. He was processed and released after posting the required bond.

As the investigation progressed, officers were able to identify the passenger who displayed the handgun.

Officers obtained warrants for his arrest and on Sunday, March 11, 2018, Djordje Maretic (23) of 2130 Tahoe Parkway, Algonquin, turned himself in at the Crystal Lake Police Department.

He was charged with

  • two counts of Aggravated Assault (Class A Misdemeanor) and
  • one count of Disorderly Conduct (Class C Misdemeanor).

He was processed and released after posting the required bond.

The Crystal Lake Police Department continues to investigate this event. The second passenger has yet to be identified and whether the handgun displayed was authentic has yet to be determined.

    There are jackasses with tempers everywhere, including this county. Perhaps he just happens to have a funny name, was lawfully armed, and just made a terrible choice… Happens all the time. Societal conditions have no bearing on this man’s actions…

    Furthermore, isn’t a man presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law… or is this the McHenry Kangaroo Court, because, if it is, I want in.
