Defenders Seek Solar Farm Support for McHenry County Zoning Meeting

An email from the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County:

Member Action Alert:

Environmental Defenders, please express your support for community solar farms and renewable energy in McHenry County by attending a ZBA hearing THIS WEDNESDAY.*

*Note there was a misprint in the Northwest Herald – meeting is Wednesday at 1:30, not Thursday.

McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals Hearing (Continuation of the hearing on the proposed community solar farm near S Solon and W Ringwood roads.)

Hearing date:
Wednesday, April 25 1:30 p.m.
McHenry Co. Administrative Building Conference Room C
667 Ware Rd.
Woodstock, IL

In December 2016, the State of Illinois passed the historic Future Energy Jobs Act that calls for 400 megawatts (MW) of community solar projects to be developed by 2030 in our state. For more information about community solar farms, please access the Citizens’ Utility Board Fact Sheet here. (https://citizensutilityboard.org/community-solar-illinois/)

Having spent the past year researching community solar farms and meeting with industry professionals, the Environmental Defenders strongly believe that community solar farms can include native plants and other practices that will provide positive environmental, social, and economic benefits for our county, while allowing us to reduce our carbon footprints.

As a result, we have prepared the Environmental Defenders’ Community Solar Farms Position Paper, which you can access here. (http://mcdef.org/wp-content/uploads/Solar-Farms-Position-Paper-4.11.18.pdf.)

We urge you to contact your elected officials to support community solar projects in the county.

We also ask that you attend future meetings held in your area to speak out in support of community solar projects, including an important meeting THIS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25.

Thank you for supporting community solar farms in McHenry County!
