Five Crystal Lake Liquor License Holders Found Serving Minors

A press release from the Crystal Lake Police Department about 6.3% of liquor license holders selling alcohol to those under eighteen:

Crystal Lake Police Conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement Checks at Local Retail Establishments

The Crystal Lake Police Department completed another round of Alcohol Compliance Checks.

During the month of May, we examined 79 separate locations licensed to sell alcoholic beverages in Crystal Lake, including businesses that sell packaged alcoholic beverages and those that serve such
beverages for on-site consumption.

In all of the 79 businesses examined, persons under the age of 21, under the guidance and supervision of Crystal Lake police officers, entered and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages.

With the exception of five businesses, the clerks or business employees appropriately checked the purchaser’s identification, recognized them as being underage, and did not complete the sale.

The following businesses illegally sold alcohol to a minor:

  • CVS Pharmacy – 177 W. Virginia Street
  • Chipotle Mexican Grill – 5006 Northwest Highway
  • Garfield’s Beveridge – 320 W. Virginia Street
  • The General Store – 1309 North Avenue
  • McHenry Athletic Complex (MAC) – 1310 Ridgefield Road

Crystal Lake officers cited the clerks/employees who completed the sale to a minor.

An Adjudication Hearing on these matters is scheduled for 8:30 am on June 6, 2018, at the Crystal Lake Municipal Center, 100 West Woodstock Street.

Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death among adolescent Americans and teenage alcohol consumption is a leading contributing factor.

The Crystal Lake Police Department strives to develop partnerships with local merchants to help
them achieve the goal of zero alcohol sales to minors.

The Crystal Lake Police Department conducts these Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement checks randomly throughout the year and we will continue to do so in the future.

  1. they probably walked right past a dope dealer on their way into the store

  2. While illegals and H dealers wander about freely and unchecked.
It’s all about “revenue enhancement”, just like seat belt enforcement.

  3. I thought the supporters of this site love active enforcement of the law?

  4. Didn’t these establishments pay off the local gendarmes?

When Nygren ran The Crystal Lake PD, misran actually, certain places were always targeted, again and again when they refused to sell or serve slightly under-aged kids.

But violations were eventually cited, one time on the 17th attempt using different kids as ‘pigeons’ to ‘work off’ their own alcohol charges (typically driving with open liquor).

A comely lass, 1 week short of her 21st birthday was just the ticket in citing a particular restaurant.

I always wondered why Nygren had an axe to grind against the restaurant proprietor.

Wouldn’t he give the scoundrel a free meal??!!
