Resident Not a Fan of Township Government: Stop the “Township Carnival”

The following comment from WizBang might be of interest:

I’ve been reading about the recent carnival of activities at the townships.

I sometimes turn to the front page to make sure that I didn’t pick up a grocery store tabloid.

How dare the characters at the townships spout off that we need to stay away and mind our own business.

The after-hours rifling of files, outrageous legal fees, hiring of friends, family and political cronies.

Computers wiped clean along with missing hard drives.

Bonuses given to employees and family members, just because, has been too much.

I love the statements that “we need to prove the elimination of townships will save the taxpayers money.”

Here’s the condensed version.

Eliminate millions in payroll and pensions, sell the equipment, property and buildings so we can start collecting real estate taxes on some of these prime locations.

Give us a break, the townships went out with the horse and buggy, you know it and we know it.

We don’t need a taxpayer-funded group hired by the townships to tell us why you’re needed.

You’re not!

Stop the township carnival from feeding at the taxpayers’ trough, you’re long out of date.

We don’t need you, we don’t want you, you need to go away.

Get on your horse and buggy and spread your remaining fertilizer in a pasture where it might do some good.

Resident Not a Fan of Township Government: Stop the “Township Carnival” — 28 Comments

  1. Is Tom Poznanski still collecting a full time paycheck from the State of Illinois?

Amazing to me that the story just disappeared…

  2. Too bad your ideas aren’t in the bill. The bill as it stands now, unfortunately it won’t save money as the county could keep much of the real estate as satellites etc. we need a bill with the plan that shows how it would save money, and what the townships could expect to gain. And it needs to be for ALL of IL.

  3. If you remove the self protectionist a-holes from township government then there is no issue with elimination

The only folks trying to justify township government are the self protectionist a-holes and their buddies who have been told they will get something (jobs, succession ‘rights’ etc.) in the future for defending their miserable existence.

    Have a great Monday.

  4. Wrong PIllbox. I am NOT an a-hole AND neither have I ever worked for any government anywhere. I cannot believe people are so stupid as to throw away local accessible government (which they have much more control over) while begging for BIG government (which is the tyrannical agenda of the new world order). People are really STUPID!

  5. What’s stupid is to think Dianne Evertsen is part of the new world order…

  6. Cindy the whole most accessible is such a pile of sh*t. The only reason their accessible is because they have nothing to do. It’s antiquated and inefficient.

  7. Illinois has the most units of government in America.
These people and their little fiefdoms must be abolished
for the good of the already overburdened taxpayer.

  8. I would add also, Cindy, do you know who your township assessor or supervisor are and when even was the last time you had to call or ask them a question?

  9. New Jersey has 1344 units of gov and has the highest property taxes in the nation.

IL has almost 7000 units of gov, perhaps HonestAbe would explain why IL isn’t the highest?

New York has the highest over all taxation in the nation and has fewer units of gov also.

Cutting service is the only way to reduce taxes, so a well thought out plan should be part of the deal.

  10. Cindy, I understand your overall principle, smaller local units of governments are preferable to larger units of local government.

But it doesn’t apply here bc the township government in Illinois is TOTALLY UNNECESSARY in the 21st Century.

Townships are rife with incompetence and corruption and as we just saw in Algonquin Township, systemic nepotism. They must go! The fat, undeserved pensions, (killing future generations) are reason alone to cut them off!

Here’s just the sort of officials attracted to township do-nothing jobs:

    https://archives.fbi.gov/archives/springfield/press-releases/2013/former-moro-township-official-pleads-guilty-to-fraud

Donald R. Flack, 77, of Moro, Illinois, who served as the Moro Township dupervisor, pled guilty to wire fraud and structuring transactions to avoid reporting requirements today in federal court, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced. Flack faces up to 20 years in prison on the wire fraud charge and up to five years in prison on the structuring charge.

Both charges hold the possibility of a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release after prison term. Sentencing is set for January 3, 2014.

Evidence revealed in court showed that Flack was an elected official and employed as Moro Township supervisor since 2001. Moro Township is a governmental unit in Madison County, Illinois. As Moro Township supervisor, Flack was required to accurately report the finances of the township to the township board, to the township citizenry, and also to the Illinois Comptroller’s Office.

In approximately 2006, Flack began unlawfully taking money in excess of his authorized salary from the Moro Township account believing that he could repay the money. Flack claims he borrowed the money to make a personal investment with a large return promised. Flack was planning to repay the township. Flack wrote checks to himself out of the township account disguised as “office expenses.” The amount of funds misappropriated is approximately $700,000.

The prosecution is the result of an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Norman R. Smith.

  11. I bet $10 Cindy doesn’t comment back OR she does and calls everyone idiots.

  12. Cindy take note:

East St. Louis Township Supervisor Oliver Hamilton admitted that he spent $40,000 on personal expenses on a publicly-supported credit card and pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis Thursday morning to federal wire fraud charges.

He was ordered by a federal judge to turn over that credit card and relinquish any control over township bank accounts on Thursday in exchange for his freedom until sentencing on March 1.

U.S. District Judge Michael Reagan asked whether Hamilton would resign his position as supervisor and was told he would resign at the next board meeting. Reagan also ordered Hamilton to resign from the St. Clair County Board and East Side Health District. As part of the deal, Hamilton is barred from being employed by any government entity, including federal, state, city or township positions.

A BND investigation found that Hamilton spent more than $230,000 on the no-limit American Express card from January 2012 to June 2016. The investigation showed that Hamilton used the credit card to pay for trips to Las Vegas and elsewhere; thousands of dollars in gasoline for his Chevy Silverado pickup; more than $3,000 for car washes, detailing and oil changes; flowers and gifts for political allies, restaurant tabs and other purchases.

  13. My point is that 1) Townships don’t do anything in the first place.

but 2) They still rip us all off!

  14. None of you seem to understand. I am not arguing FOR townships as they exist. The whole business is a total scam. I am arguing the point that the smaller and more local your government – the better off you are and not subject to the King. No one is thinking outside of the box here. You are all being led down the one world order train and you are none the wiser.

  15. What iota of evidence exists David McSweeney, the architect of the consolidation bill, is part of the conspiracy to create a NWO?

    Zero. NONE.

  16. See Below: Now, answer my question, Cindy: Do you believe David McSweeney is part of an agenda to take over the world? If so, what evidence do you have that directly links David McSweeney and his effort to consolidate townships to the NWO? Please Cindy, offer one piece of evidence. ONE PIECE.

    Who is ICLEI:
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is the leading global network of more than 1,500 cities, towns and regions committed to building a sustainable future.

By helping the ICLEI Network to become sustainable, low-carbon, resilient, ecomobile, biodiverse, resource-efficient and productive, healthy and happy, with a green economy and smart infrastructure, we impact over 25% of the global urban population.

    **********************************************************************************************************************
You believe they are part of Agenda 21, which has been “sneakily implemented by ministers of government under the guise of biodiversity to steal property rights, sustainability to pass regulations controlling people and climate change to push foreign control using unlawful agreements like the Paris sham”.

Great, why don’t you try this experiment? Go in your garage and start your car. Make sure the garage door is closed. Let me know what happens. Now, multiply that times 3 billion and you have why sustainability efforts are a great idea.

  17. To anyone who believes we have any local control over townships, guess again.

The Road Commissioner decides how to spend the money and the township board rubber stamps it.

    There is no oversight.

  18. And that’s probably Road Commissioners decided they didn’t want oversight and a General Assembly and Governor agreed.

  19. Ok, so now we have established what kind of a complete moron Not My First Rodeo is. Your cracked worldview will not allow you to entertain any truth. Keep believing your lies while hiding in your basement with your brain glued to your teevee. Nothing to see here. Party on you less than useful idiot.

  20. Not? One source on what? Your smart meter is going to kill you long before my garage kept car runs out of gas. Stop being a fool and learn to research something (anything!) for yourself.

  21. Folks,
Cindy is a great example of the saying “I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. YOu get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.”

  22. Classic example of transference there Rodeo. Now we know that you are an Alinskyite. I should know better than to “extend a hand” to a progressive. Matthew 10:14

  23. Cindy, you haven’t extended anything.

Name one piece of evidence that ties David McSweeney to the NWO.

In fact, give ANY evidence that proves ANYONE from McHenry County is part of the NWO. Please, just one piece of evidence!!!! JUST ONE!!!

  24. Not? No one said that. You are missing the whole point. You are throwing strawmen. Useful idiots do not “recognize” one another. You cannot grasp the BIG picture. I am done talking to a wall. Matthew 10:15
