Sheriff’s Office Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Crash

A 72-year-old Woodstock man died Sunday following a single motorcycle crash in unincorporated Woodstock.

Vermont Road reaches Kishwaukee Valley Road at the bottom of the “S” curve.

Preliminary investigation indicated that at 11:03 a.m. on May 6, a 2006 Harley Davidson Softail Deluxe was traveling eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road, just west of Vermont Road, when he drove off the right side of the curved roadway.

The motorcycle traveled through the ditch, up over Vermont Road, and came to rest on the east side of Vermont Road.

The motorcycle operator and sole occupant was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained
severe injuries.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputies, Marengo Rescue personnel, and an off duty paramedic provided medical care until the man was transported by Marengo Rescue to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

No mechanical issues with the motorcycle were found.

The investigation revealed that the driver’s motorcycle operational abilities were believed to have contributed to the crash.

The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

  1. Really?

Huntley Patch says he WAS wearing his helmet at the time of the crash,

Wonder how two sources get different stories?

  2. Damn Fake News, Casey.
You just can’t trust’em to get the facts straight.

  3. BTW, Two houses burned to the ground Sunday afternoon in Sun City and
the Patch still hasn’t got around to reporting on it. Go figure.

  4. I am still Trying to figure out the…..”Ejected from the Motorcycle” part

  5. At this point all that should be said is “thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of this man”.

    What else really matters?

  6. He was a great guy who loved building cars and motorcycles.

He hunted and had a trailcam picture of a cougar in his office.

Hard to believe he was 72.

    RIP Don

  7. I was a car wash kid at Peyton Chevrolet when Don came to work there as a mechanic.

He told me that he was going to buy that shop some day and he did.

He accomplished much from fixing cars to building street rods.

He’ll be missed by everyone who met him.

  8. I’ve know Don and his family for years, such a tragic loss.

    Prayers to his family.
